I'm playing as England Early Campaign, and I'm past turn 150. When do I get Longbowmen?

Yep, you're close, don't give up now! I remember passing the 1200 mark and being a bit upset, cause I mean it's 100 turns to go through! And still no longbows. BUT that's the Early Campaign for ya.
So yeah you'll be comin up on it soon, like Strenge said, it's anywhere between like 1260-1270 I think. And then by Zeus' beard, you shall have some long range fun![]()

And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing,
to trade ALL the days from this day to that, for ONE chance, JUST ONE CHANCE!
to come back here and tell our enemies, that they may take our lives...
...but they'll never take OUR FREEDOM!!!

Hm, thanks.
But I'm still a little upset because by 1270 you already have a lot of power, and that plus longbowmen can only mean a straight steamroll over everyone.
Its gotta be before 1270. In the late campaign, you start the game with longbows and its 1220.
Hmmmm....well THAT doesn't make a lick of sense. Hunh. Hold on though, I know I've asked this question before too, and I got a pretty definitive answer. I think? Okay searching records....
DOH. Okay guess I didn't ask it. BUT in my searches I found this thread which has some very nice info http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...ght=longbowmen
For whatever reason, the Late Era campaign starts you off with longbows after you build a new archery building, but Early Era makes you wait until 1270. However, you can edit the event PRETTY easily by doing a little digging and changing like 2 lines. I guess it's historically accurate for Early Era, don't know why Late Era starts with longbows though.
Anywho, hope this helps. I'll be changing the value a bit too, cause I really don't wanna wait until 1270 haha. Was thinking 1240, 1250, make it a LITTLE sooner![]()

Sorry, messed this up. England can apparently recruit longbowmen in castles with a practice range after the Heavy Mail event. This should be somewhere from 1200 to 1220. I am not home at the moment so I cannot check. I dimly remember there is an event called English Longbow Event around 1270, but I am unsure what it does. Maybe the longbows get a power-up? I suggest you do a thread title search with the keyword "longbow" and another one with "longbows", and you will have all the answers.
Pretty sure I have some practice ranges in castles but I still can't get longbowmen...
Ok, I'm confused ... I'm the only one here who got longbows long before the heavy mail event (1200) ?
It was my first SS6.4 campaign: I don't know what turn was exactly, but it was definetly not 100 or above and I got the woodsmen guild offer and of course I accepted. This enabled me to recruit longbows.

Adevăratele înfrângeri,
sunt renunţările la vis.
I got some kind of longbow event happening where it said that "The king has banned all free time occupations except for longbow practice, so now longbows can be recruited more widely". It was about turn 55 of my current campaign, thats 1275 i believe.
I am playing as France, 1250ad, Late Campaign, RR is on, I have a practice range in Caernarvon, Longbows are recruitable, I also control Nottingham, as a Archery range, no Longbows. I believe they are an AOR unit, really enjoy shooting the English with Welsh Longbowmen, Long Live Owain Glyndwr

I'm currently playing England as well in Early Era campaign, SS 6.4, BGR IV-E, RR on, VH/VH on turn 125 (year 1224) and can confirm Longbowmen still aren't available. I have the following castles(fortress)...Nottingham, Caen, Angers, Bordeaux, Toulouse. All have archery ranges. Nottingham has woodmen's guild and angers has master woodmens guild, doesn't help.
Wow didn't realize Caernarvon was a special castle unit type area...I made nottingham my only castle on all the british isles. Seems late era gets the longbowmen access earlier (year wise). Do you have access to them anywhere else?
I'll respond to this thread specifically when I get longbow men in early era and say which castles they are available in. (sounds like it will probably be at around turn 170 (year 1270)

Hey brother, I'm basically in the same boat as you. Archers are alright, but I'm facing more attrition than I'd like in the holy land because of those damn fatimid cavalry charges. Turn 131 right now, so that's a few weeks of playing. And once I get to 1270, I'll promptly forget about longbowmen and slaver for yeoman archers. I kind of wish I started late era, but the idea of starting from scratch is really appealing to me.
Longbow is available in Wales first and then sometime after the 1252 Assize of Arms (for SS events around 1270 to give roughly a generation gap to train) which first mentions longbows as a military weapon and the requirement to have a longbow and arrows on hand it was only much later in 1363 that training with longbows became a requirement to meet the needs of the 100 Years War where massed longbow formations were the largest part of the armies of England in France. The battle of Crecy wasn't until 1346 so England should be getting more longbow men prior to that as there are some battles against Scottish where longbowmen are mentioned as Wales had been somewhat pacified by end of 1200s the Battle of Sluys is probably the first use against the French. 1100 start means that is nearly 250 years before longbows were used in battles frequently as massed formations. For 2 turns per year that is close to 500 turns hence why many people prefer late campaign start which reduces turns until longbow from 340 turns to about 100 turns. Due to the long waits and more interesting variety of units is why I started working on 1390 though it is taking me longer than anticipated because 1, its harder than I thought to coordinate and do the actual merging etc, and 2, less time to work than I thought when I started.
