Default The american right and science

    http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/we...at-s-it-up-to-

So here is a goofy John Stuart story dealing with a crazy lady who is trying (without actually making any specific claims), to insinuate that science is bad somehow. I know this is just the daily show, and I am really not eager to start promoting the democratic party, but really, why is it that you do not see democratic political strategists saying things like this? I like to think of myself as a fairly independent voter, but it is stuff like this why I just can't bring myself to get behind the republican party, ever. Arguably the most viable argument that the right can make here is on global warming (seeing as the effects of it are still largely guesswork), but even then they don't make strong arguments, they just claim that scientists are fabricating data in order to get rich off of that lucrative, lucrative grant money. Which is hands down crazy. So help me out here...

If every idiot couldn't vote the Republicans could get rid of the crazy people.

    Drawbacks of suffrage I guess.

    Huh?

What I'm saying is you should need at least 100 IQ and 1500 SAT score to vote.

Then there would be no appeal to stupidity in American politics.

Suffrage has nothing to do with women.

Right, on the female thing anyway, I showed this video to a friend, and his response was basically to blame the fact that the republican spokeswoman was a woman, so I sort of jumped to the conclusion that you where saying the same thing when I saw "suffrage".

That said, given how ernest all this is I really don't think this is pandering to the the stupid demographic, this is just stupid, all the way to the top. Also, somewhat off topic, standardized test are a problem already, and mean much less than people (stupid people?) think.

There should be a test. It'd have to be fair so you could have questions like do you think homeopathy works to get rid of the dumb left wingers and questions like do you believe Adam & Eve literally existed for the right wingers

I agree with the IQ thing, but maybe a bit lower, like 95, or whatever the average is: state by state.
A meritocracy and a democracy: outlandish.

I am in favor of testing, or better, removing our democracy all together.

Democracy, and the suffrage for the stupid, is a necessity for the function of a modern, developed country. Otherwise you will have violent uprisings and rebellions.

I don't see the point you are trying to make, sorry.

I personally think physicians and people studying medicine should rule countries.

I know. This is the catch 22. These people are not fit to rule themselves but we cannot ignore them because they are too many.

If you start removing the rights of people who you think are stupid, how long before someone who thinks your stupid (or uses this as a pretext) removes your rights?

I don't need to vote as long as competence is in charge. Competence can never be truly in charge when the masses are the keepers of power.

Totalitarianism is a matter of jurisdiction, not a lack of democracy.

Limited Government is the opposite of Totalitarianism.

'Private' power is still power, by removing accountable government you risk replacing it with unaccountable private power, be it corporate or 'club' based.

What, because some how going to med school gives you godly intelligence that the rest of us can never hope to match so we should just let them rule over us?

Well I guess if you have faith that whoever these so called competent people are will always act on the peoples best interests then more power too you, but I don't.
