That very 'tool of war' indeed mean we plan to use slingers, for Wildmen of Enedwaith

The 'strange folk' in question, IIRC are the Northmen actually, Tal-Elmar's mother is one if you remember; funny, not thought it might been the Dwarves who are meant with demons x)

Right, on popular request we provide a sneak peak on one of our worked on rosters

The Rhûn Confederacy will use what we refere to as a 'tribal system' where the player can make each settlement a seat for either Balchoth*, Khand or Haerhûn [Far East].
Each specialization is represented and made avilable trough a building, a court for chieftains and kings and their soldiers, with either two or three levels of upgrade, contributing bonuses and some uniqe units.
We will not spoil much more about it, the rest will come when we make a proper and full preview of the Rhûn Confederacy, but we present you to the elite of Balchoth's three special units here and now:

The Balchoth Sicans are proud infantrymen with fierce battle cries, the very same horrible and frightening shouts that earned their kindred their name in the West.
Their medium armours make them less suitable to hold a line against heavier opponents, but their role and joy is truly in powerful assults. Into the fray each of these warriors carry a two-handed sica that can pierce enemy armours, and cut shields into two.

Unit created by Earl of Memory

    Balchoth Sicans

    Balchoth Sicans (upgraded)

    Note: Tweaks may yet come.

    * On the choice of name, see post 926 on this page

Ah, good one indeed. Never thought of that but it makes sense.

No it is time for criticism.

First of all, I am not sure that it is relevant to use Balchoth. They appear quite lately in the Third Age in comparison of other Easterlings (undetermined in 500 against Romandacil Ist, the Wainriders from 1851 to 1944), as they came in 2510. The last easterlings known are the bearded one with great axes during the War of the Ring (you can note that there are still Wainriders in the War of the ring, as Frodo's vision tell us).

But let's say that you use Balchoth. They are described like this :

They were only rudely armed, and had no great number of horses for riding, using horses mainly for draught, since they had many large wains, as had the Wainriders (to whom they were no doubt akin) that assail Gondor in the last days of the Kings. But what they lacked in gear of war they made up in numbers, so far as could be guessed.
So bad equipment. And, well, as beautiful as this Sican is, he is weel armed, too much in my opinion for a member of the Balchoth.

Will get back to you on the reasoning behind it later (and later the sneak peak might be republished, the removal is not related to your reply hehe); etymological concerns, inspiration and why the Balchoth as we have them in the 35th century SA is not to be intended to be the Balchoth of 26th century TA.

Good reflection Deathshade, as promised the reasoning will now be provided.
First off, obviously it is a matter of artistic freedom, derived from the need of making a game, the desire to make a fun game and more so from the lack of information Tolkien actually provide us concerning the Easterlings in general and the Second Age specifically - while still maintaining an utter respect for JRR's creation.

So, the matter of Who are the Balchoth?
In the wide lands of Rhovanion, between Mirkwood and the River Running, a fierce people now dwelt, wholly under the shadow of Dol Guldur. Often they made raids through the forest, until the vale of Anduin south of the Gladden was largely deserted. These Balchoth [1] were constantly increased by others of like kind that came in from the east, whereas the people of Calenardhon had dwindled.
    - Appendix A

    1. So these people were then called in Gondor: a mixed word of popular speech, from Westron balc "horrible" and Sindarin hoth "horde," applied to such peoples as the Orcs. [Author's note.]
First I underline that the name is not what they called themselves obviously but is a lable given by their enemies, for the Easterlings who had at this time (mid 2nd millenium Third Age) settled in west-southwest Rhovanion. But just as with the Wainriders, who they were akin to, they as a people and not groups of peoples labled as one by outsiders seems the more likley (the Wainriders as a people was undoubtly not the same thing as the Wainrider as an army, the latter a union of folks, and perhaps the former too).
Thus the interpetation is made that the Balchoth technically are 'kindred folks', a branch of the Easterlings, the orginal group of this branch and the forefathers of those who would be later seen in the west is what our 'Balchoth tribe' is meant to represent.
In history for example the Goths, Huns or Mongols consisted of many different and sometimes unrelated people who by outsiders were named and treated as unities, much because it really didn't matter since they were in joint war with the outsider(s) who in lack of insight and interest called them such, and the group who gave the name dominated.
Now what about the title itself? "Horrible Hord" may been a term that was not invented until the 26th century for settling Easterling conquerors of Rhovanion, yet it is not clearly known weitehr it was not a term used prior. A strech but non the less, and what to otherwise call these kindred folks who lived in the East? Proto-Balchoth? - yet more about this later.

The Easterlings since the fall of Sauron till the point Wainriders and Balchoth and other invaders came into the accounts of the Third Age had faced hard and destructive times with wars, destruction and plauge. That I chose to interpet (there's other solutions, and not an easy or possible task to pick one as the rigth one) meant that there's been a decline in the level of civilization that the Easterlings once can been expected to have had (see further down):
More ominous were rumours from the further East: the Wild Men were restless. Former servants and worshippers of Sauron, they were released now from his tyranny, but not from the evil and darkness that he had set in their hearts. Cruel wars raged among them, from which some were withdrawing westward, with minds filled with hatred, regarding all that dwelt in the West as enemies to be slain and plundered.
    - UT; The History of Galadriel and Celeborn: The Sindarin Princes of the Silvan Elves

When the Plague passed it is said that more than half of the folk of Rhovanion had perished ... They were slow to recover; but their weakness was not tested for a long time. No doubt the people further east had been equally afflicted, so that the enemies of Gondor came chiefly from the south or over sea.
    - UT; Cirion and Eorl and the Friendship of Gondor and Rohan: The Northmen and the Wainriders
Those folks who were labled Blachoth I deem were such peoples who were the weaker in the eastern struggles, driven westward in hope of better terms and spoils, much as was going on during the Migration Period (known as the Barbarian Invasion) during the late Antiquity and early Dark Age in our history.
    I do not try to work in opposition to that the Balchoth in the 26th century of the Third Age were a rustic bunch as you quote;
They were only rudely armed, and had no great number of horses for riding, using horses mainly for draught, since they had many large wains, as had the Wainriders (to whom they were no doubt akin) that assail Gondor in the last days of the Kings. But what they lacked in gear of war they made up in numbers, so far as could be guessed.- UT; Cirion and Eorl and the Friendship of Gondor and Rohan: the Ride of Eorl
But back in the Second Age the folks of the East was, or at leats in many cases migth been, more prosperous and advanced:
In the east and south well nigh all Men were under [Saurons] dominion, and they grew strong in those days and built many towns and walls of stone, and they were numerous and fierce in war and aimed with iron. ...
    Now Sauron prepared war against the Eldar and the Men of Westernesse, and the fires of the Mountain were wakened again. Wherefore seeing the smoke of Orodruin from afar, and perceiving that Sauron had returned, the Númenóreans named that mountain anew Amon Amarth, which is Mount Doom. And Sauron gathered to him great strength of his servants out of the east and the south;
    - Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age
One may argue that the better choice is to leave out Balchoth all together and name it something generic such as 'Near Rhûn' or that we make up our own/borrow a RL historical name [and there is prejudicate from Tolkien by which such an action could be made] or that we in strict properly name them 'Proto-Balchoth'.
But in the light of how we have chosen to view who the Balchoth was, a group of peoples rather than a people coming form the east [named by the Gondorians], and Tolkien never provided anything else to work with for this bransch we will use the lable if only as an 'in hindsight' name; and here in an era separated by more than 2500 years, we will depict them as a more prominent, advanced culture than they later appeared as in the Third Age when they moved west.

Non the less - we will pay homage to our inspirational sources; of the three 'tribes' Balchoth will be the least advanced but the most numerous, both what concern how heavy units they provide, and the benefits their courts provide.

If people still do not fancy that choice it will be a very easy matter to edit themself and/or make a submod for, since it's just a matter of edit the ingame description texts, which anyone can do without a seconds headache; and that I can on request show people how to do myself

If this was a question, the answer is No, this sneak peak was an exception and there's currently no intention to drop any more images until the Rhûn roster is done; if there will come any more sneak peaks on Rhûn units or on units from other rosters only time can tell

Hey Ngugi, just noticed that Gil-Galad looks constipated. Is there any lore justification? Did he run into Sauron's hand when looking for the nearest potty?

Constipation has brought about many grim men, Tankbustaz.

And indeed there's lore to back it up. That white lembas bread, it contains no fibers, ain't good for ones digestion

I see, in that case he should have subsisted on Ent-water. He would then be cool as a cucumber and then pwn Sauron. Alternatively he could alternate Lembas with Cram. That thing is probably made up of fiber.
Athough that gives a good Idea for a trait that a character gets when on prolonged campaign

    Suffering from constipation

    +1 Unrest
    -1 Loyalty
    -1 to Max Hitpoints.

Want to see this in DCI: LA Ngugi. pretty Pls?
