Default Losing my first carthagian campaign!

ATM i play a campaign as carthage on VH/H (as always) and what shall i say ... I AM LOSING THE FIRST TIME! and i love it :tooth:

I have my own "house rule" which says: "never blitz the AI". This time, i should have broke the rule!

I play with the BI executable which further improve the AI with invasions. To make it short, the Juli took Sardinia/Corsica and the Bruti landed a powerful army in Africa near Thapsus and conquered the city by surprise. Both happened at 269 BC and 268 BC ! Scipi holding ground in Sicily, but they are to weak to defend the island alone, 'cause the greek are my allies.

At 267/266 BC Bruti landed with a second brand new stack in Africa (best AI move i have seen so far) - just at the same moment as i attacked Thapsus. Couldnt withdraw and had to fight.

    my "battle of Zama"

Damn numidian traitors! They fight also together with my enemy! I couldnt use my numidian cav as advantage, 'cause they got killed by numidian mercenaries which fought on the roman side.

My numidian cav is dead but theirs not...

*woohoo* the AI moved his numidian cav wisely and attacked me from behind! My hidden cav is neutralized by roman reserve forces and couldnt change the battle to my favor.

maybe i shouldnt play on VH/H :hmmm:

    last revenge

Great MOD! Finally i have fun with RTW

The maniples...Ohh I love them as I have created them and see in your screenshots....this is how romans prevailed for sure!

Great mod! Thanks for that. I lost hope already in RTW but DM 8.0 gave it back!

Also you must have noticed the mix of AI maniple usage.
Some maniples are stretched, some combined, some will defend and support, some will flank and attack.
Not to see a single usage front line as in other formations.

Yes i was totally surprised, 'cause old (lame) AI exploiting tactics didnt work. My hidden cav was neutralized by roman reserve forces and my early victory on my right flank was useless, 'cause i didnt found a hole in his army formation to backstab the AI.

Same thing i noticed in the historic battle of "Cannae".

OK, played this battle on hard and i dont know, maybe this battle is not designed for it, but i couldnt use my reserve on right and left flank to encircle the enemy (as historically Hannibal did), 'cause the roman AI used his own reserve (back lines) to catch my troops on both flanks.
Finally i won on both flanks, but it was to late, 'cause it took to much time and meanwhile my center was totally destroyed. Lost the battle. But cav is weaker in your mod, so this could also be one of the reasons i lost.

how come that the brutii sailed to your land?... i thought it was the scipians will land to your land...

    Yes that was a surprise.
Didnt expected that. I have a army in Sicily, but my general and faction leader died near Lilybaeum, so i stopped my assault on Sicily for a short while. The scipian faction leader is also dead (i killed him in battle).
Scipi will lose the island, thats for sure, but for now i have to fight Bruti and Juli in Africa and Sardinia.

Tonight i will continue this campaign. Will see what happens next

its agy because on vh campaign difficulty, the ai gets 10,000 denarii., but they are more aggressive. since it makes them more aggrissive, anyone think it wold be fair to just give yourself 10,000 denarii every turn llike the ai gets while playing on vh campaign difficulty, or would that defeat the purpose?
