James nodded, it hadn't been a bad day. Well except for the fourth year who had found it funny to try and cast a babbling curse on him while he tried to set homework. Fortunately James had seen the student - a rather indifferent individual student when it came to being sneaky - suggest it before, and erected a shield charm which had caused the student to start babbling instead. The rest of the class had found it funny until James had assigned extra homework.
"Well, I have done my homework. But I have not been able to do much.. Practise. And when I do I always can't help but trying to learn Protego which is above my skills by far."
Well i'd expect someone trying for their O.W.L.S to be able to do it. But your only in your second year. The basics are always more useful than advanced magic. Harry Potter defeated the dark lord with Expelliarmus. A spell that most wizards don't even both with, it being to basic and not powerful enough. But his mastery of the spell gave him an edge. A spell you know well will always stand you in good stead.
She looked down.. Everybody knew Harry Potter.. He was always a good example for a lot of things.. She nodded.
"Well... Actually.. I am already preparing for my OWLS... And I am about to be there theoretically. But I'd fail when we came to actually casting the spells... And IT is so hard to find opportunity to do it.. I am so grateful you're willing to do this."

ooc; i'm not going to use actual spells, but make stuff up as i go along okay it'll still all count rp wise.
Theory is all well and good. But you need practice as well. Lets try something a little less advanced. Trust me, i couldn't cast a Protego spell when i was twelve either. You'll get there. Now, as you seem interested in Protego we will start there. It's actually a variation of several shield charms. Many grown witches are wizards are completely unable to cast it. Protego is one of the simpler - though by no means simple - shield charm. It can be used in several ways. Either as a blanket spell that will defend against incoming spells with no further action. Or in direct opposition too a combatant spell.
The later is the easier of the two to achieve, as it needs less ability to simply stop one spell, rather than a blanket protection against many. So we will try it like that.
Take your wand and do the following. Cut from one shoulder towards the opposing hip.
James demonstrates
With good timing - highly important - and suffiecent practice you will be able to stop attacks. So shall i try something simple on you, and you try to defend it?
James had made the movement, over exagerated and large. To allow her to get used to the defense. The level of the spell however proved to much for her on this occassion, and she finds herself on the floor being tickled all over.
Helping her up after the spell ends, he asks if she is okay?
So James moved away, and again made a large and deliberate show of casting Rictusempra. He did it weakly, so as the tickling wouldn't last to long if she failed to block it. He needed to watch her wand work anyway.
Her effort was a bit better this time. As she made the downwards slash her timing was right, deflecting some of the spell. Her focus was insuffient however and a portion breaks though. This time it is only her feet that feel like they are being tickled. But as anyone who is ticklish know, ticked feet are enough...
She is certainly game james thinks. And casts the spell again. This time it hits her with full force. And she spends the next seven minutes in hysterics.
