    Assuming Vista or win 7,

Uninstall the game starting with the Kingdoms campaigns in Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
Delete BOTH Medieval II Total War folders.
Run a good free registry cleaner to clean up what CA's uninstaller does not.
    Reboot.
    disable the UAC.
    Install all in C:\Games.

    http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to...-in-windows-7/ Just follow the instructions.
http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_...updatev281.htm is what I have used for years.

You will need to be logged in as Administrator to do all this.

Possibly a new disc is in order.
Do you have another computer you could try to open it on?

It won't make any difference either way.
The reason for trying it on another computer is the differences between dvd readers. Maybe theirs and not yours.

Good news, i got the cd working but instead of installing it i thought i would just play it on disc in folder but comes up with his error message "The procedure entry point _AIL_set_3D_orientation@28 could not be located in the dynamic link libary mss32.dll." I think thats our problem, now we just need to fix it

A missing [mss32.dll] file seems to be pretty common these days. It should have automatically installed when you installed Kingdoms. A re-install should fix the problem.

If this solution hasn't worked do an Advanced Search on your OS drive (or your drive where you store most of your games), find a copy from any other location and then copy-and-paste it into your M2 folder and Kingdoms folder for good measure. Be sure you don't delete the original from whatever location you found it in. Good luck!

mss32.dll is part Miles Sound System CA loves using and if the game it is not installed correctly with this where the gam knos where to find it, 90% of the time you're reinstalling. 10 yar old technology with RTW and carried over to Medieval2.

Reinstall both. There is no Kingdoms folder unless you do it yourself.
