Default Easier to Modify a Unit's Models vs. Deleting them?

I've been modifying the SS 6.4 EDU for some time, but now it's time to step it up a notch and start adding new units and deleting some to make room for them, since the 500 limit is used. I need to add new units with the models used in other units. But I would be modifying completely different units that use different models. I would be editing the battlemodels.db file, but I don't know what else.

Would it be easier for me to modify the units instead of deleting them? I read another thread after searching that said that deleting requires me to go through multiple files. I need this to be as hassle-free for multiplayer matches. Thanks in advance.

Replacing the battle model is the easier of the two options (one simple entry in EDU) - but has it's restrictions because of the type of unit.
Replacing the unit completely needs a check\adjustment in the multiple files you mentioned.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I'll have to go with the modifying option. When you're talking about the type of the unit is it specific like pikemen, sword infantry, and polearm infantry or is it more basic like infantry, archers, cavalry, siege? Also, are the gunpowder units different from the archers or are they categorized in the same way?

With type I don't really mean siege, cavalry, infantry, missile only. As you mentioned you have the subcategories as well, defined by the attributes line. You can however create a new unit 'similar' to the old one, remember that you can change the display name in text\export_units.
