    Default looking for a processor

hey guys, looking for some advice on a processor (I'm not picky over intel or AMD) I can spend AT THE MOST $300 US, but I'd prefer that to be a bit lower.

don't worry abot a mobo or naything I'm going to get that after I figure out what processor I want.

I'd like to run RTW on huge settings

It looks like you could get the new Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 if u stretch it to $316... it beats all AMD2 x2 processors except maybe the fx which costs twice as much ;-)
However u would do just fine with Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 or Intel Core 2 Duo E6400... they are priced at $183 and $224 respectively! both these processors perform better than AMD2 x2 3800, 4200 and 4400...

The only thing I'm still struggling at this point is the fact that there are no SLI boards compatible with Conroe ??? Does anybody know what is the best mobo for Intel Core 2 at the moment?? Or even better what is the best configuration we can get with core 2 processors?? It seems that it is still too early to shop around ;-(

Since you are getting it for gaming i would get the ones that jegui suggested since AMD is better for gaming imo.

No. The new INtel Core 2 is faster then the AMD X2 range inculdeding the the AM2 X2 5000.

Personally I would get the Core 2 6400. A great chip at a great price.

While we are on the subject of Conroe, where can I find out prices and benchmarks?
