    Default Your wierdest diplomatic deal

I've been making huge amounts of money as the Turks from my Egyptian ally, (Crusades campaign)selling maps + attacks on Edessa+ rebels for about 1800 a turn (I didn't realise if you don't make a long term deal you can apply again as soon as you attack the nominated target). I have even been able to sell map information to my enemies but the Kingdom of jerusalem wouldn't give me anything. Then I destroyed the County of Edessa/Antioch and next turn when I went to the Kingdom of Jerusalem they were a lot more co-operative. Firstly them offering map info for map info became "balanced" instead of "very demanding" so I thought I would try that. They came back with a counter offer - we give you 3450 florins if you give us 50 florins a turn for three turns. WTF???? I give them 150 florins and they give me 3450 florins in return? An offer too good to refuse!! I checked my finances and found that's what they gave me. Have you had a wierder offer?

Not much ever tops the times when an AI faction randomly attacks you, sues for peace two turns later and is prepared to give up a couple of its own settlements to end the war.

Happened to me too several times. Offered them map info/trade rights, they refused and came with a counter offer offering me 2000 - 4000 florins in exchange for nothing.

As Lithuania in Teutonic Kingdoms campaign I destroyed the Teutonic Order and Vassalized Poland and the Golden Horde. Went to war with HRE and in the middle of it Poland attacked. Wrecked them again and revassalized, my ally Novgorod attacked me and I vassalized them. then the HRE Golden Horde and Novgorod all broke their vassalige under me and launched attacks all at the same time. I rage quit and to this day have not played a Teutonic Kingdoms campaign.

That's interesting, I thought once a vassal, always a vassal, what caused them to stop being vassals? Why use vassals anyway, when you usually have to get them down to one province before they will agree to that kind of thing?

Vassalage has its benefits. Saves money on defending the settlement while still bringing in most of it's income, as well as improving your reputation if it is maintained.

Hmmm, so appearantly nobody found the trick I found:

I asked them to become a vassal after I realized I couldn't raise enough armies to conquer their territory, and their cities are too expensive for normal bribery or purchase. So I made a gamble - gave them $400,000 for becoming my vassal, while they're still stronger than me. Then I began to purchase their cities for free because every denarii I paid just comes back to me next turn.

They were rich and powerful, with bondless treasury and stacks of heavy infantry and cavalry. Now they have nothing and I own all their major cities, and I have achieved all that without a fight.

BTW the wierdest diplomatic offers were when I was playing as the Byzantines the Fatimid Caliphate offered me 6000 Florins or they will attack the second one was when I was playing as the Novogrod Republic and a Portuguese diplomat came and threatened me that they will attack if I did not give him 100 florins. WAT DA ?

I remember once asking for an alliance and I'd give them a ton of money and they would refuse since they didn't want an alliance with me. However I noted that my relations would increase every time i would make the offer despite them refusing. I brought it up to Very good before they declined any more offers. Stupid AI.

The Aztecs demanding that I become their protectorate and I pay them.

They were powerful, but not that powerful.

When you're by far the most powerful faction in the game as the Holy Roman Empire and then you get a message from Scotland saying pay us 150 florins or we attack.

Dude, I don't even border you.

You can do this any time - just save the game, then offer to give them three of your nearby provinces for 7000 florins - this should be rated as a very generous offer. They will refuse but be pleased, and each time you offer a generous or very generous offer your relations improve. Just keep doing this over and over again and your relations will be perfect. The only downside is that your diplomat will suffer a severe downgrade in his skills/rating as he has to fail over and over again for this tactic to succeed.

In my current game, the Timurids made the Papal States their vassal. That was sort of awkward.

How do I broker a peace between two warring factions?

Currently France and England are fighting one another, sharing Western and Northern Europe.

Meanwhile, the Timurids have the whole East side of the board, most of the Italian peninsula and all the way over to Marseille.

I want England and France to stop fighting to help me deal with the Timurids ...

    --

On the subject of the Timurids, does anybody know a fix to get rid of the Timurids elephant cannons? It worked in my last campaign by copying and pasting a different desc_strat file, but i lost the file and the Timmys have no problem pumping out waves of elephant artillery. This isnt a problem when I can fight them, but my game crashes at the start of battles against the EA.

The awkward moment when in your Portuguese campaign, France attacks with two units against your full stack at Pamplona, gets defeated, and next turn you can ask them for 50,000 florins, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Angers, Rennes, and Marseille for peace and they accept... Typical French

I'm only giving my most recent one:
My offer: Trade rights, my map information, and their map information; I'll pay 500 florins
Their response: Trade rights, and their map information; They'll pay me 3000 florins

I once had an interesting negotiation as byzantium with Pope Gregory:
My Diplomat offered map informations exchanged and trade rights ...
But his holiness, obviously in a state of divine grace, counter-offered me 3600 florins or he will attack me ... full of fear my diplomat accepted those harsh conditions
