    Default Do you bribe?

Bribery is something I mostly tend to forget when playing Stainless Steel. I would be interested to know whether other players have found it useful, and if so, in what situations they will bribe and whom. Also, if anybody should happen to know: Has bribery been changed in any way from vanilla?

I never have enough money to bribe. For the cost of bribing half a stack I can buy a full stack of mercenaries or tribute several factions. By bribe I assume you mean armies in the field? I do it often in Shogun 2 but the costs are too high in MTW2 for the value. Buying cities from AI is more of an exploit though I do sometimes give them cities.

No, but I always accept bribes. Just don't tell my boss...

But as it pertains to the game: Again, no.
Just not worth it. Even when I have hundreds of thousands of shekels on hand, I'd rather use it to tribute other nations, fund large armies, or buy lands I want from allies.

If I have enough money to bribe then I can purchase mercenaries instead. However every now and then I camp a bridge in order to force the AI into a bridge battle. If it doesn't work and I'm running low on supplies, I will either attack the enemy army or if their too numerous (which would be why I wanted a bridge battle in the first place) I will attempt to bribe them.

Never bribe in M2TW. Too expensive, not worth it. In RTW it was ok.

I have used it, but only when im bored, like when i have a diplomat up at novgorod, i send him to the Finland territory and there are usually some armies wandering about from Novgorod with local units(like eastern spearmen) that will join you instead of disbanding when you bribe them. I bribe them and take Turuku (or what is it called). I actually could have done this legitimately without cheats once as the Crusader states, but i needed about 8000 florins, which i did not have(i was totally broke) at that moment.

I imagine i could have held onto it easily, because it is a castle and it is easy to maintain public order. I think it would be even better to own Visby (Gotland) and have trade rights with all the factions that own the coastal settlments in the Baltic sea, it would be a money machine!

Only rebels. Like when 3 or 4 units spawn in the middle of my empire, and all my armies are in the frontier or warmongering. And if I have a diplomat near there. Normally I flow with cash so no problem.
Cassius: "Our men at arms have secured the city. We've received representatives from all the best elements. The senate is with us, the knights are with us."
Brutus:"The pontifs, the urban cohorts, the lictors guild..."
Antony: "Oh, the lictors guild, very good. Only rally the bakers and the flute players and you can put on a festival."

Pretty much what the above said, as for the rest, i try to bribe some rebel settlements if i can but usually just to give them to other factions (if im byz, i like to try and bribe adana, damascus, tortosa, etc, so i can give it to them, since they will get rolled over asap)

Yes, but only rival generals. Partly to do with my portraits mod rather than actual skills.

I admit I also use console commands to make a diplomat have Secretive and Smoothtalker traits

"will help build battle station for food" - or rep

I only bribe generals, and rebel captains if they happen to have units that are of good quality and are guaranteed to actually join me rather than disband.

Quite helpful if you happen to have a province that rebels frequently and has advanced buildings, you could end up with almost a stack of welsh longbows if you're adept and work the merchant stacks as England. And keep wales in a constant state of rebellion by taxing the hell out of them and having no garrison.

Gets expensive, but I've done quite well with it.
