yea they did.... the man in front usually fought for 5-6 minutes then they went to the back and the person behind them kept the fighting.... it was very affective since only the first line got tired but then they rotated and when they reached the front of the line again they were ready to fight 5-6 more minutes..

yea you have to... the only reason why the empire fell was because most the emperors were very brutal and many ppl rebelled against them... if they had more ppl like ceaser who was for the ppl instead of themselves the empire would of been alive another 200 years at least

This serie is to realistic, show sex , crime, violence , show the real rome ,a dirty city , not likr the 60`s movies who shows rome to clean, and its funny because the " real " Titus Pullo , a vulgar soldier ,seems to change the History in several times.
And those clip is good for the moder to see the real lorica hamata , and the helmet (monfortino) who is used in those days , the end of republic.

Wow, the first Roman battle clip from a movie/tv show that I have seen that portrays Roman warfare realistically and not as some free for all melee with broken formations.

i love the battle scene kinda feels like saving private ryan roman style. yet they still managed to make the helmets not look like they did in ceasars time.

those are the republican helmets... not the imperial ones.... the imperial helmets started to come in the 50-45 b.c

I think you are correct. Legionaries during Caesar's time would have still worn the Montefortino type helmet with a horsehair crest. The helmets worn in the battle scene appear to be the Coolus type helmet, which were worn by legionaries of the first half of 1st century AD.

    Coolus type: http://www.redrampant.com/images/hcooluse.jpg

As an aside, the shields during Caesar's time would have still been oval shaped.

A late Republic legionary: http://roman-empire.net/army/legionary-early.html Too bad I can't find a picture of Peter Connolly's to use. His are of much better quality.

The point is not the helmet , i belive That all the serie is acurated so the helmets to, but the battle formaction and tatics , You see in a point of battle that the centurion use a whistle to give orders and the first line withdraws to the end and be replaced by the second one ,the the 2nd for the 3th etc.

i think its the republican helmet that started the new imperial helmets... you can see some similiarities with them... the neck guard is a sign that that the imperial helmet was made after that one

i dont understand what you mean. the republican and imperial helmets both have neckguards that go straight out this is probobly cuz they can look up better and have a better range of motion. also the shields in rome are imperial being that they are completly square and not round. but anyways i hope that they can make the romans fight in some mod like they do in the clip, with the troop rotation and all.
