New to RTW
Hello all :original:
Im new to this site but have done a little reading just to get the feel, im completely new to RTW and wish to ask fore some advice/help if i may?.
1) After reading about RTW iam finally going to purchase the ERA's pack containing all the 3 games and expansions. What i wish to ask is should i install the total realism pack as i like the sound of this mod or should i learn to play the vanilla version first?
2) Is it best to play through Rome first then add the expansions later i.e. BI and Alaxander or do these expansions add more to the base Rome? i.e better graphics and A.I.
3) If i do install RTR is it compatable with all the expansions or is this mod solely for Rome vanilla so to speak?.
Thanks in advance for any advice, there seems so much stuff to install i want to do it right to begin with
.
Thankyou
Ferret.

Re: New to RTW
Welcome to TWC Ferret_uk.
1) I recommend playing vanilla RTW first for a little while so that you can get the feel for the game and see what you like and don't like. Then you can browse through all the mods and grab what you want.
2) It's really up to you but you should play RTW first. The expansions don't add anything to RTW. Before ERAs and Gold, BI patched RTW to 1.3 but that's it.
3) RTR: Platinum Edition is for RTW 1.5. RTR Gold is for 1.2 and you won't be able to play that so Platinum is the one you want.

Re: New to RTW
Welcome, Ferret. I would suggest starting out with vanilla Rome and learning how to play (with the 1.6 patch, of course). Install the expansion packs by all means but make sure you're fully patched. Once you've installed Barbarian Invasion, install the 1.6 patch.
Once you've played vanilla Rome you're in a better position to value a mod/make judgements on how you feel it compares to the original.
The X-packs don't add new graphics or AI, they just add new campaigns (although these have different units).
RTR is only for Rome.
Hope this helps.
Edit: hahah, beaten to it.
