Default Updating my wireless network driver

So I have been having problems with my (schools) wireless internet recently where my connection just drops every 10 minutes or so. I naturally thought it was a driver problem so I looked into it and saw my driver was out of date. I went to Netgear's website, downloaded the latest driver and run the exe and just give a go. It uninstalled the old driver and (supposedly) installed the new one in but when I checked the driver information, it still showed the old driver version (this is after a restart and all that jazz). I also cannot get the windows driver wizard to find the driver update I downloaded, it just said I had the latest driver when I told it to search the folder with the updates exe. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Just because it seems out of date doesn't mean that it is. Though the driver may be a few years old it could very well be last release driver that was written for that equipment. I can't imagine that universities rush out and buy the latest equipment as soon as it's available.

What modem are you using and what kind of connection do you have? Have you tried asking your schools IT department about the problem?

If you're in a dormitory environment I could see another potential cause for your problem - too many people online at one time. Are you sure you're getting kicked from the connection or are connections simply timing out? If you're online at night when everyone else is doing research/gaming/viewing porn/etc. then maybe the connection is just being overwhelmed in the shuffle. Good luck!

I have no idea about the school's router, but my personal wireless adapter is out of date (version 5.6 or something and the latest is 7.1) I just can't seem to update it.

Please let us know what make and model you have. We can't give any useful help without that information. Good luck!
