Best Elite units? Best faction combined arms?

Hey I just played a cool custom battle pitting the best factions elite units against eachother. What do you think are the best units(inf or cav or combo) and factions?

Rome: Praetorian cav, Italian cav, Praetorian cohort, Triarii.
Seleucids: Companion cav, Cataphracts, Elite Phalanx, Armoured elephants.
Parthia: Noble Cataphracts, Horse archers.
Carthage: Sacred band cav, Sacred Band inf, Iberian heavy cav.
Greeks: Spartan hoplites.

Rome: equites extraordinarii, pedites extraordinarii, antesignani and cohors praetoriana
Carthage: libyphoenician elite shock infantry, sacred band infantry, sacred band cavalry , elite african infantry
Aedui: solduros, gaesatae maybe helvetii phalanx.. carnutes

I don't know if there's such a thing as "best", most units have different purposes. What i would find most useful are phalanxes. Ideal for defense (especially in sieges), a good pike push from the back never fails to deliver. I also quite like the Iberi units, in both looks and usefulness.

What? Those bastards keep eating into my army until I've charged them like 5 or 6 times with 3 different cav units.

they have absolutely crazy stamina and stamina recovery, never rout in your hands, ever. They also kill units quite well and quickly, which surprised me. Usually, hoplites kill slowly but not these ones, they ate through 2 units of merc Thureophoroi very quickly and lost very few men. This was in asia minor against Seleukids in one of my old savegames

But yeh, they are absolute beasts imo. If anything, they should be nerfed further.

Spartan hoplites are over rated tbh and easy to deal with. Chaeonion Agema will eat them any day.

Nope too expensive. try Drapanai. Dacian falxmen will pulverize any armour.

Unless, if you're running ALX/BI and using the shieldwall ability then maybe there would be a difference. i wouldn't know because i use RTW.

I agree but Drapanai are melted away when under archer fire.

so what if they're unshielded? they're still cheap.

or if you still bricks when seeing puny missiles in EB then how about Thracian peltast mercenaries? now those guys are the universal infantry of Europe.

I dont disagree with you on Drapanai being great for chooping down enemy infantry But they are really squishy when under missile fire

1 single unit of spartans just butchered my 2 epirote levy phalanxes an illyrian light cav and a bodyguard unit of mine.......

i'm wondering if i could change the format where the controls are on top, and put them to the right and bottom like most other total war mods/games. is there anyway i can change it?i know i'm in the wrong area to ask this, but no one hasn't written on the technical help forum in years

Thraikioi Peltastai
AP falx, has a shield, at least medium accuracy javs.
Good for almost every strategic settled army.

Hypaspistai are my favourite heavy infantry unit. There are also the most versatile heavy infantry in the game apart from spartans and maybe reformed cohorts

Sarmatian noble cav (which almost every faction can recruit as a regional) are also good as well as prodomoi (the normal and thracian varients)
