There exist various categories of memberships within Scientology. Each category defines itself through the amount of money which was paid to the "International Association of Scientologists" (IAS), or the number of people who were signed up for the IAS.

c) Lifetime membership - 2,000 US $
d) Sponsor - 5,000 US $
e) Crusader (New!) - 10,000 US $
f) Honor Roll - 20,000 US $ or 20 new members for the IAS recruited
g) Patron - 40,000 US $
h) Patron with Honors - 100,000 US $
i) Patron Meritorious - 250,000 US $
j) Gold Patron Meritorious - 1,000,000 US $
k) Senior Honor Roll - 100 new members for the IAS recruited or "contributed to IAS expansion in some stellar fashion".

The only religion you have to pay to get into. They are also very good at censoring critisism...

Many religions go through this initial fund-raising phase. Catholicism did all of this and much more. Ultimately, if you want your religion to grow, you have to do some pretty immoral things. Christianity did this, so did Islam, and so too is Scientology doing this now.

You didn't pay to join the religion.

During the middle ages (when Catholicism was at its addmited worst) then sinners payed to have their sins removed by some priest. It was not dogma to pay to get into the religion, nor even pay to have your sins removed. In fact, Catholicism was one of the first religions to promise universal salvation in paradise if you accepted Jesus as your savior.

Of course it's not an exact match. Scientology's fundraising system is more blatant than Catholicism's fund-raising system ever was, but Scientology never went around burning witches either, or starting crusades. There's no real way you can make a solid argument for Scientology being worse than Catholicism in its growth phase.

Did early Christians go around kidnapping people and stealing money from its converts? No. Did early Christians get killed? Yes. By their own group? No.

Scientology is infinitely worse than Catholicism was in their growth stages. When the Church started burning people and crusading then they are comparable. But that was a thousand years later.

Neither is most of the old testament other than the history chapters.

But thats not the point. At least it is somewhat believable. Scientology is like "LSD trip while you write a book and read a book about volcanoes"

It shows a few dead people. What's 'sick' is how scientologists do this and get away with it.

Scientology is just one amongst many crazy sects/religions... but somehow people have decided to only attack scientlogy, I guess it's because south park made an episode about them.

And because it's much bigger than most cults, and because it has celebrities in it. And the creation story is even more unbelievable than the Christian one!

And they're known for suspicious 'accidents' and are very good at silencing critics.

Not much information is known about many other cults either. If people knew more about them, they'd attack them instead/as well.

Scientology has no proof supporting its claims. Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Paganism have no proof supporting their claims. Every belief is equally plausible. Anyone that ridicules Scientology must not believe in any other religion(s). They are all equally plausible and irrational. If one ridicules Scientology, their ridicule is being (not necessarily intentionally) directed towards every other religion as well.

True. And the scientology story really isn't much less believable than the Christianity one.

The only thing that makes scientology less believable is the way that it's actually designed to take your money...

The story sounds rediculous to us now but imagine if Christianity was replaced with Scientology, it had been around for 2000 years and all Christians were Scientologists,

And then you were told the Christian story. What would sound more rediculous? The Scientologist story everyone grew up with or some story about everything starting with 2 people...
