Hello all -- I've been busily trying out major major RTW mods: SPQR, Total Realism, and Europa Barborum, and I'm not quite satisfied with any (although all are very good, thanks to their creators.)
SPQR -- Loved the large-scale map; didnt like the instant-recruitment; didnt like the uber-powerful Roman Senate armies (I couldnt beat any of them!) Also didnt like the Gallic/Macedonion endless-full-stack-armies, as Rome I played for decades and never seemed to expand out of Italy.
Total Realism -- Is this hard enough? I was bored as Romans and Pontines. Overall very nice package though...
Europa Barbarum -- I was baffled by all the obscure (but historically accurate) place & unit names, the Latin alphabet usage ("v" for "u"), and the complex new game mechanics.
Thinking of trying Terrae Expundagae (sp?) by Lusyed I think. Anyway does anyone have opinion about best overall major conversion mod, either any of these or another I haven't tried? Any commentary welcome. I'm especially interested in large-scale & interesting campaign maps and revamped combat mechanics, as well as overall stability and polish. Thanks!
