Default American and Europe Strategy on China

With the recent rise in tension in Asia and other parts of eastern Europe as well as middle east and Africa isn't it time for a renewed concert of Europe type of deal to go down?

Instead of looking at China as a threat, shouldn't it be more productive to lock down China as the dominate power in the east to achieve balance over America and having Europe as the middle man.

Right now the power is in America's court, not that it's a bad thing, but the idea of democracy is that no one man should decide any other man's fate be it good or bad.

With China as the second power and Europe in the middle the world power scale would once again be balanced after the Soviet got a eating disorder.

As a side note, as undemocratic as China is no one man can decide a country's fate especially 60 years after Mao's total dominance of the party, I believe the party is spread pretty vast now. With Xin Jinping having much much less power than even Jiang Zeming.

But maybe it's just me and the world is comfortable having the US dictating the pace.

Pax Americana is just fine thanks. It may have an aggressive streak but it least it feels empathy, more than can be said of China.

Europe certainly won't do anything about it. Hell, they probably like having the US dictating the pace without actually having to commit to it since they can turn a profit off of it.

Quick question, which "other parts of Eastern Europe" OP is talking about?

China should be milked for all it's worth, since they're also benefiting by creating jobs to relieve their social pressure and permitting them to acquire technology whether by transfer or other means that allow the to advance by leaps and bounds in years what would have required decades to achieve.

The next stage, using a strategy from the British, is to force them to import democracy, which while it might have a short term nationalistic effect that could cause instability on a regional level, will eventually cripple them enough that they can be safely contained.

Yes because causing a civil war that would result in massive losses in life and strife is such a good thing

China already tried implementing democracy and it tore the country apart.

The thing that most people are ignornant of is that everybody is different. The United States of America for example is NOT a democracy and nor is Canada. The only nation close to democracy could be Switzerland but that's a different story.

China is not one of those countries. Which is probably why so many people are afraid of it because they got to where they are by NOT following democracy. And what people don't understand they fear. Another which I remember a long time ago Christopher Patten (Former governor of Hong Kong) noted in a lecture in Cambridge is that China was a country that was raped and humilitated by the west for centuries which a lot of people don't seem to remember. So in all it's difficult and hypocritical to criticize China and lecture on its records and expect them to listen when not too long ago you were bullying and raping him in the ground. The fact that he's now a big guy that's strong enough to hold on his own and hasn't pulled the same stunts is a miracle.

Besides, the British already left a legacy in Hong Kong and there's a reason why China is allowing democracy and freedom of speech in that area.

Clearly the US is hoping that China becomes the country they can and should be - in a better partner to the world. Dropping its support of rogue regimes and distancing itself from Russia - really as a means to take the next step instead of being a bit of a pariah that people are forced to deal with. That could mean everything to China being the next global power that the US actually would welcome. We can no longer police the world due to cost.
I highly doubt that anybody would want another person to replace them as the "top dog" of the world.

Unlike the US, China isn't interested in messing with other countries' politics . They only care about business and money. What you do in your living room is your own responsibility, just don't drag me into it.

Each and every country serves for their own purpose, why should China or any country for that matter care and listen and do what another country tells them to do?

I don't think you realize that business and money globally means messing with other countries' politics. Why on Earth did the British cared of the affairs in India? or the US cares of the affairs in the Middle East? Spreading Democracy and liberty is a secondary factor or else the US and Europe would be invading African nations left and right.

...which usually ends up with them messing with other countries politics. You can't do business with other countries without realpolitik.

Exactly. China is engaging in plenty of that right now. And the US clearly Supports China as a global power - just not the way they are now. They still need a huge amount of reforms.

And it isn't about top dog. China's never going to be top dog. The fact that they are throwing around insane amounts of money and still not held in high regard is very telling. They do not have the goodwill built up after a world war to power them into becoming a true superpower. Let alone one that would dethrone the US. And really there are very few countries that would want that.

We like to think we live in chaotic times, but the beginning/middle of last century makes just about everything after look tame. The US hasn't done a bad job as top dog. Everyone in a position to make money, got rich. And the West pulled many more countries out of chaos and financial stagnation. But we would absolutely welcome China as the regional power, with the ability to project force in many other parts of the world. They just need to learn to play nice with others. And the next government might be more open to that.

But USA try to lock China already.
Trying to form Southern Asia block under their control and increase their military presence here.
Trying to subdue Iran and cut China from energy resources from Africa and Middle East.
Trying to gain full control over China sea trade routes.
    There is war already.
It somewhat similar to pre II WW Japan's blockade. It was USA embargo what push Japan to war against them.

Much of the US' policy towards China formed itself as a result of China's actions in the region. The US has essentially encircled China - but only because China successfully alienated most of its neighbors and left an opportunistic hole big enough to drive an aircraft carrier through.

The US's shift towards Asia is simply a matter of Asia becoming the next big, wealthy import/export zone.

And it goes to highlight the difference between China and the US in that the US has the Navy to protect its interests. Something China is quickly moving towards. Even more so after Libya where they lost vital energy contracts.

The only significant downside is that it inherently pushes this China towards Russia and other unsavory countries. But it also reinforces the notion that nobody would want to put all its eggs in this China's basket.

So long as we keep buying their . They get too powerful that manufacturing can easily move even more into Vietnam and even Central America.

Cheap goods will always be produced where they can be made the cheapest. More and more countries are eyeing that pie.
