I feel like this is a dumb question, but as I have never played a late campaign game (shocking isn't it), what specific files are different from early to late campaign?

I know that all of the files in the following directory are different,

mods\SS6.3\data\campaign\late
but where does the campaign.txt file go, and is that the file that causes the campaign splash screen to show the late campaign start button?

Obviously I can't use the SS_setup.exe as it will cause errors as I have edited many files in the data folder.

As always any help would be greatly appreciated.
