(Proposal) - 1800's Europe (Working title)

So i recently started playing the newer total war's again and was thinking of creating an 1800's RPG, this thread will be a bit vague, for which i apologize anyway, on with the idea....

Setting
The RPG is set in the 1700's and 1800's western europe (England, france, spain and italy, may expand) a time of constant war between many factions (The Napoleonic wars, for example), The empires of these countries still Growing (More opportunity to expand the game world) On the home front, many people made a living through trade and by using the land to grow food and materials.... and there is plenty of opportunity to become a soldier in your country's army and fight for it's expansion on the battlefield. Throughout the decade firearms were becoming better and the way of the sword began to die out.

Possible exact dates

1760-1785 - American revolution time

1795-1815 - The Napoleonic wars

1850-1870 - Early Victorian (Crimean war and such)

1880-1899 - Late victorian (Boer war and the zulu's)

Note: I have never run a cRPG myself, so it would be really helpful if i had someone with some experience to help out with this, what i do have, however, is knowlege of the time period, i just thought i would throw the idea out there to see what you guys thought of it, if i get a few people interested then i will flesh out the idea a lot more, thanks guys!(Again, this was Vague and should not be taken as being set in stone)

So, which country in the world setting would players play in?

That's always a good start. Perhaps England in the napoleonic wars? Or something similar.

If Napoleonic, I would suggest you to go for Consular France, or even the Directory one.

That would be cool. Austria or Prussia would be awesome to.

If napoleonic, i thought that it would have been interesting to have multiple countries involved, maybe to begin with, It is just Britain and France in a war situation, but as time goes on, the other countries come into play?

The only problem is that's like an alliance game. You can only really RP as one country, in like a political RP, with The objective to seize the throne or win the war, or just wait it out for example.

I guess you are right, just sounded like a good idea to have a 'pick a side' edge to it, If we go into the victorian times though i do think being Britain would be the best bet, so much happening during that time in that country

Napoleonic wars would be the best. You would be able to have a military career by buying a commission and recruiting men for your regiments and such, and then get into political offices like prime minister etc or get rewarded titles and lands.

Make a social group and plan it out there.

The American Civil War could also be interesting.
Either that or the Napoleonic Era of France. I suggest starting at the very beginning of Napoleon's reign, or perhaps even his Italian campaign.

What could you do though really in American civil war? It would be no politics, just battles really.

I feel like there's a lot of potential there.
Are you kidding me? there would be lot of politics actually.
Not to mention all of the generals disagreeing with each other on plans.
There's a lot of potential there. Players wouldn't even have to soldiers.
It's just a time period.

And when I say politics, I mean interesting stuff, like coups etc.
Not just some dusty old Americans arguing over laws and stuff.

There could easily be coups. With RPG players, its very likely.
They all play extreme characters.

But France is fluctuating at this time, would make a very nice situation with lots of leaders getting kicked off.

I did say the Napoleonic setting was better. I won't disagree with you there.
