I was thinking on starting a campaign with them , I got bored by my Genoese campaign .

In wich period are they more powerful ? Early or Late ? And when do they get better units and easier to fight enemies ?

In the early period I would like to build my empire , but I am afraid The Mongols will overrun me .
In the late period , again , Mongols will attack me and also the Novgorodians are stronger!

What's especially good in their armies? And what tactics should I use? Also , are the Cossack Musketeers good for anything ?

I played an early campaign with them and it was kinda boring because the eastern european settlements aren't developed and I was forced to use only militia.
I then started a late campaign and it was lots of fun. Kiev has some cool looking units and they also have very good stats. Not to talk about the militia units who also look badass :d. I allied from the start with Novgorod and attacked Genoa to take that settlement in Crimea (forgot the name). Attacked Lithuania and Hungary and allied with the Byzantine Empire. Allied with Poland also but they betrayed me and I pwnd them hard. Also destroyed Hungary who was a monster when I started the war. Never had a fight against the Mongols, they were busy with the Cumans and with the Islamic factions.

Well, Kieven Rus is one of my favourite factions so i definiately suggest giving them a go
If you're going to start with Kiev you should check the sub-mod section and get Battle for the Baltic sub-mod. Absolutely gold stuff.
I always play the Late Era as early is simply too boring for me, i want the action right off the bat.
Kievan Rus have very good infantry and a lot of their dismounted troops have AP weapons.
Very good archers as well, both mounted and dismounted. Their cavalry is medicore i'd say.
Now their position, if you get Battle Of The Baltic sub-mod, you start with more regions under your control.
As for me, their starting position is fine and you'll be forced to face all kind of enemies - pagan Cumans and Lithuanians, muslim Turks, catholics and definiately Mongols. Bloody campaign for sure haha.
I always go for Constantinople ASAP and then taking all the Greece. Ally with the Romans as well.
After securing the Greece i always kill Hungarians, once they are dead i simply swim in cash (with BGR enabled). All in all, they are very fun and their units are one of the best looking in a game.

Kievan and early. I never even got reached by the Mongols in any campaign as Novgorod byzantine kiev or Crusader states.

Kiev late campaign is one of the more fun campaigns I think. Interesting units and potentially good challenge from neighbors before Mongols arrive. Also a wide choice of where to expand.

Yes, there are more units to choose from in late era, and their militia grade units are pretty poor in quality even compared to other eastern militia units which ussualy are not as good as the western faction militias, much less Italian militias, and you will be stuck with them mostly for a long time if you play early.

Yeah, and now you can't handle with The Moors trying some wonder tactics with Light Men At Arms who are POO .......... hahaha.
You SHOULD use your HEAVY CAVALRY - feudal units and Santiago Knights, javelinmen and urban militia to pin them, then Alforrats continously charge and repeat!

Oh come on, even i dont start that many campaigns!

I also have this problem that there is so much awesome in each faction its hard to choose, and once you start playing you're like - ooh! That faction has so much better units/starting position/anything else. And you start as that faction and its all the same over again.

Playing Denmark is easy (no matter the difficulty) and boring.

Play as something else.

Why don't you stick closely to a faction and fight to the last man, even have to immigrate?

I know SS has so many interesting things in each faction but we should find down all fun of a nation, including extreme challenges of each till the end before changing.

SS and Battle for the Baltic by CC are a joke if you want to play as Kiev...do not even bother...notice how nobody answered the last part of your question...its a western european based mod...oh look I have three type of spearmen that is so in depth but cannot take out any other base level militia...trust me do NOT even bother unless you try different mods...other factions in SS are well covered...hey owning a large space of land by Byzantine's greates trading partners is insignificant and we are lucky to have peasants....peace king

Hah I'm currently playing as the Seljuks, love those Ottoman Infantry and have currently vassaled the ERE leaving them with only Nicocea while they have Arta in greece and have also been attacked by the Fatties where i reclaimed the territory they sneak-attacked and the Mongols are just about done with the Kwarezmians so there's another threat on the way, it's gonna be fun
