Interesting Article. Generally the old known stuff, but with some new details. Interesting that there will be finally just one typ of battle, but i still beleave it, if it is finally in. They promised navallandings for shogun two, and Empire had also the largest map, but just a few provinces. I don't care if the map ends on Bactria if there are 200 Provinces to conquer again and not nearly 70 of Shogun...

Proud to be a real Prussian.

    well this is great news

There’s also a vast increase in the number of men at your disposal - although that’s simply an increase of the number of men in each unit, rather than putting many more units at your disposal.

what do you mean just one type of battle? no sieges or no land battles?

    Very interesting.
Waht I like from the article are :

    1. The Provinces provide a bridge between the grand size of countries and the micro-management of regions. The campaign map can therefore be as large as you’d expect from Rome, but include the detail of Shogun without overwhelming you with detail.
    2. Finally, the AIs will have their own unique personalities. Like Civilization, you’ll come to realize that certain AIs have different personalities and can be treated in different ways.
    3. The ultimate goal is to prevent the endless run of sieges of previous Total War games, and hopefully encourage more fighting in the open countryside.
    4. “What we want the player thinking about is not ‘I’m going to move that archer unit and combine it with those two units of cavalry.’ We want the player to think ‘Where’s the Tenth Legion?’, or ‘The Eighth Legion has been in a battle, it’s weakened, let’s move up the Tenth to support it.’ We want the player thinking about the grand strategy with armies, not fiddling about individual units.” Importantly, this doesn’t mean simplifying the game, but instead bringing about more colour to your manoeuvrings. And it’s there that they’re putting a lot of effort in tying you to these Legions.
    5. The city just dwarves the ships at anchor - and this mighty fleet might carry as much as a legion of troops, ready to reinforce the siege. A siege that’s been ongoing for three years, surrounding the 37KM of Carthage’s walls. (Image that the Aurelian walls were 19Km only)
    6. Looking back at those moments of battle, there’s an impressive new lighting engine, resplendent with particles and gorgeous reflections off the burnished metal of the Legionnaires’ armour. New features have been layered onto Total War’s venerable tech. There are new shaders for everything from the metal to the soldiers’ skin, the sky and terrain have both been improved, and the whole game has moved to an HDR model. The team are happy to say that they’ve moving from realistic towards cinematic.

Instead I don't like this too much : It all looks fantastic, but Russell is quick to point out that “while we obviously want it to take advantage of the best systems that are out there and will be out there in a year’s time, we also want it to work on lower end systems. Our objective is to not change the minimum spec [from Shogun 2]. People play strategy games on laptops more, and so we need to keep the game viable on lower end machines while working on higher end PCs.” I only hope this will not mutilate the game. I hope that with high PCs we will get more than on low PCs!!

Ah, I wouldn't worry to much about that. I figure that they'll just broaden the spectrum of options to tone down and whatnot.

    Has the scale changed?

"The battles have a new sense of scale thanks to an increase in the size of units and the number of units you control."

What about all these new camera modes?

"There’s also a vast increase in the number of men at your disposal - although that’s simply an increase of the number of men in each unit, rather than putting many more units at your disposal."

Does this mean the Gauls will have one overall personality, or that their personality will change depending on their current king's personality? It would be pretty cool if it were the second, would add so much depth to diplomacy! And should be pretty easy to implement also I guess

Well he says that the size of units has increased and that instead of concentrating only on increasing the number of units they have increased more the number of men in the units...
Like instead of increasing the roster too much they have increased it a bit and focused more on the number of men in each unit (ex: roster 20 -> 40 , units 160 -> 300)

Ahh well, when I saw the word simply, it made me think he was talking about just increasing the sizes of units. This is the first time I've heard anything about increasing the amount of units.. and it was a change I was hoping for.

Seems like we are not getting a 50-60 unit stack. Pity.

“Although there’s bigger battlefield environments there’s not necessarily bigger stacks. You’re not going to get fifty or sixty units to control.

I only made and example. But since they are increasing the number of units you control and, at the same time, control on Legion scale, I don't see the problem. If I am correct instead of one army of 20/30 stacks we will get 60 stacks, for example, but divided in two legions. So we will se alot of units..

First of all before you do this learn to actually read :

This apparently old and I am sorry if however most of you did see this already.
And by new I meant something that people might haven't seen. Not completely new.

The only part I found that seemed bad was more explicit reference to denying resources to enemy by invading regions. So it does not appear you can capture those resources for yourself and is more similar to just a raid where the enemy loses the resources. Too bad as I don't think that is enough to stop headshots.
