    Default Repairing damaged government

Obviously you want to destroy any other faction's government when you take over a settlememt (along with their barracks and wondrous temples). But what if you reconquer a lost city, and you're given the option of repairing a government you'd previously installed?

For example, in my current KH campaign I took Thermion, built a Type I gov, then lost the place to Epeiros . On recapture it was possible to "repair" the former Type I. Is this advisable, or should you simply destroy ALL previous governments and start over? Thanks for your kind attention.

It's better if you repair it. No need to waste 10 turns setting up lvl 1 government all over again.

Before destroying barracks always look which factions use these barracks (it says in the barrack/building description), as some factions use the same barracks!!

Also don't destroy wondrous temples prematurely, as they offer a good public order bonus (and sometimes law = good against corruption) that helps in newly conquered settlements.

Simply repair your own government building (if you want to keep that level of your own gov-building) and destroy all foreign gov-buildings.

While this is great advice, it does depend on which faction you are. Some factions don't get Wondrous Temples, and don't get any bonuses from having them. In that case, it's fine to tear it down. For example, the Sweboz don't get any temples higher than Tier 3, and don't have bonuses for the higher tiers.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

Simply check the building description. It says exactly what bonuses you get. If there are no bonuses, bring that baby down.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the advice. What I probably did wrong before was add pacification after repairing a previous government, and I'd get options to build yet another government (including the one I'd just repaired). Now Thermion's Type I is repaired without the pacification, and the options don't appear. Problem solved, and time saved. Cheers.

Actually, you DON'T ALWAYS want to destroy any other faction's government.

There are reasons for leaving enemy government for some time.

Example: you play Makedonia. In Alexandria, Antiocheia and Seleukeia you can recruit your best units, Hypaspists and Hetairoi, IF you build the best native MIC.

However, in these provinces you can only have lvl2 government, so it is IMPOSSIBLE for you to build the best MIC. You will be stuck with Argyraspidai and Peltastai Makedonikoi. Which is not bad, but not as good as it gets.

However, bear in mind, the Ptolemaoi have lvl1 gov in Alexandria and Seleukid Empire has lvl1 gov in Antiocheia and Seleukeia. If you don't destroy them after capturing these cities, you will be able to develop your MIC up to the highest level! When you do so, you can destroy those governments and pick one of your choosing.

It's not a cheat, and it allows you to use the abilities the EB gives you (even if it didn't provide you with a "legal" way to reach it).

I have a house rule that when the enemy captures my city he overthrows the government, so I need to institute it again. But repairing it is perfectly ok in my book.

Interesting. So maybe choosing a guv type is secondary to military--or socioeconomic--considerations?

It might be. Ofcourse, for role-playing reasons you should first build governmental buildings. I only introduced the described measures if I cannot get to the elite units in any other way than by using enemy gov building.
