    Default Hufflepuff Common Room

    Hufflepuff Common Room
    Head of House:

Welcome to the Hufflepuff House. Our emblem is the badger, an animal that is often underestimated, because it lives quietly until attacked, but which, when provoked, can fight off animals much larger than itself, including wolves. Our house colours are yellow and black, and our common room lies one floor below the ground, on the same corridor as the kitchens. Now, there are a few things you should know about Hufflepuff house. First of all, let’s deal with a perennial myth about the place, which is that we’re the least clever house. WRONG. Hufflepuff is certainly the least boastful house, but we’ve produced just as many brilliant witches and wizards as any other. Want proof? Look up Grogan Stump, one of the most popular Ministers for Magic of all time. He was a Hufflepuff – as were the successful Ministers Artemesia Lufkin and Dugald McPhail. Then there’s the world authority on magical creatures, Newt Scamander; Bridget Wenlock, the famous thirteenth-century Arithmancer who first discovered the magical properties of the number seven, and Hengist of Woodcroft, who founded the all-wizarding village of Hogsmeade, which lies very near Hogwarts School last but not least the famous Nicholas Flamel was too Hufflepuff! Hufflepuffs one and all. So, as you can see, we’ve produced more than our fair share of powerful, brilliant and daring witches and wizards, but, just because we don’t shout about it, we don’t get the credit we deserve. Ravenclaws, in particular, assume that any outstanding achiever must have come from their house. Hufflepuffs are trustworthy and loyal. We don’t shoot our mouths off, but cross us at your peril; like our emblem, the badger, we will protect ourselves, our friends and our families against all-comers. Nobody intimidates us. However, it’s true that Hufflepuff is a bit lacking in one area. We’ve produced the fewest Dark wizards of any house in this school. Of course, you’d expect Slytherin to churn out evil-doers, seeing as they’ve never heard of fair play and prefer cheating over hard work any day, but even Gryffindor (the house we get on best with) has produced a few dodgy characters. What else do you need to know? Oh yes, the entrance to the common room is concealed in a stack of large barrels in a nook on the right hand side of the kitchen corridor. Tap the barrel two from the bottom, middle of the second row, in the rhythm of ‘Helga Hufflepuff’, and the lid will swing open. We are the only house at Hogwarts that also has a repelling device for would-be intruders. If the wrong lid is tapped, or if the rhythm of the tapping is wrong, the illegal entrant is doused in vinegar. You will hear other houses boast of their security arrangements, but it so happens that in more than a thousand years, the Hufflepuff common room and dormitories have never been seen by outsiders. Like badgers, we know exactly how to lie low – and how to defend ourselves. Once you’ve opened the barrel, crawl inside and along the passageway behind it, and you will emerge into the cosiest common room of them all. It is round and earthy and low-ceilinged; it always feels sunny, and its circular windows have a view of rippling grass and dandelions. There is a lot of burnished copper about the place, and many plants, which either hang from the ceiling or sit on the windowsills. Our overstuffed sofas and chairs are upholstered in yellow and black, and our dormitories are reached through round doors in the walls of the common room. Copper lamps cast a warm light over our four-posters, all of which are covered in patchwork quilts, and copper bed warmers hang on the walls, should you have cold feet. Our house ghost is the friendliest of them all: the Fat Friar. You’ll recognise him easily enough; he’s plump and wears monk’s robes, and he’s very helpful if you get lost or are in any kind of trouble. I think that’s nearly everything. So yeah, The Hufflepuff Common room Ladies and Gentlemen.

Students belonging to this house are known to be hard-working, friendly, loyal, honest and rather impartial. It may be that due to their values, Hufflepuffs are not as competitive as the other houses, or are more modest about their accomplishments.

Hey, fellow students of Hufflepuff. I am Aaron, Aaron Bernard Constantine. I am Anglo Chinese. I live in Laughbrough but I grew up in Hong Kong. Both my parents are muggles. So, um, would you like to introduce yourselves?

You're Evangelina, right? Are you a 2nd year or a 3rd year? Are you English? You have nice hair, did you dye it yourself?

Evie was perplexed for some seconds.. Then she nodded. Showed two fingers, nodded again. Smiled and suddenly her voice worked."I was born with it this way."

Woah! Really? You're hair's cool! It makes you real pretty! It sucks that I'm born with black hair. I'm guessing you're good at magic. Are you from a magical family? Or are your parents muggles?

Evie was truly thrown off by all those words and questions.. She blushed a second. But the question returned her to normal.."They were both magical."
She was really unable to think of a way to react.

I wish I know more magical people. All my friends are muggles so they can't help me in homework. Can I count on you when I need help?

Evie looked down in the ground considering his offer of help a few seconds.. She then nodded for a yellow couch in the corner. She went over there and sat down there herself.

She took down her hood revealing more of her long white hair beneath it.. She looked at him expectantly and thoughtfully.

Aaron wasn't the best mindreader of all time, especially with girls. He walked over there, not sure whether to sit down or not, and said,

"Actually, I have a few more questions. What kind of magic are you best at?I am terrible at chemistry. I mean potions. I'm also sorry for what I did to you in Charms. I didn't mean you any harm, I swear!"

Evie looked as if she was very puzzeled.
"What charm? And I'm not best at anything... My turn. What do you want to do with you're magic once you're done here?"

"Hm... Haven't thought about that. Maybe I'll be a muggle again, or maybe I'll work at the Ministry, or if I did great in my OWLs and HAWKs, I might be a teacher here!" Aaron replied.

"I think I've heard you want to be in the military, an auror, am I right?"

Evie at him, she was slightly puzzled.
"Umhmm.. I'd like to become and Auror.. But I think they are more the equivalent to you're anti-terror team, mixed with you're police. I don't think we have anything like a military in England. Though If I become good enough.. Then I'd aspire to try and enter and become a Hit Wizard.. That like.. You're.. Uhh I don't know the names. But elite soldiers. We don't have many Hit wizards as the requirements are almost unreasonable and.. Well we don't really need many. Uhh. But enough about that.. You'd like to be a teacher? OR work at the ministry?"

"Well, yeah. I don't really know what else I can be. I don't even know much about the Wizarding Community! All I know is that I missed the train and a lot of opportunities to meet new friends. I mean, I guess I can be a dragonologist, if I don't suck at school and life." Aaron sighed.

Ashley walks into the common room and stretches, yawning a bit before sitting down in a chair.

Evie smiles to Ashley over the edge of her book. She was sitting without her rope on a sight rare and only seen in the common room at times. Her body looking half the size she had curled up with a blanket and book.
