    Default Shoreline

Not that this is important but i was just wondering.. is the shoreline going to be potrayed as it was during the time? or will the campaign map not show that close? i guess not? For example how deep was the Tiber river in Rome during the time?

How much higher was the sea level during 200 BC anyway ?

The sea level wasn't that much diffirent from today. The only body of water that has a significant difference is the Aral Sea , which has decreased by over half in the last 20 years. If it will be shown on the camnpaign map, it will probally be shown correctly, since most of modern maps still show it in its old shape from the 1980s.

I think this is a lovely question. For example, I think Greece is being "stretched and pulled" into the Med, so how fast are these changes and what did the Greek shoreline look like over 2000 years ago? I wonder if anyone has "guestimated" the ancient shorelines of the med and created some rudimentary maps?

Coasts in many areas were considerably different 2,500 years ago. Probably on the map scale of RTW2 though only a few areas might be considerably different enough to show major change compared to modern maps. Sea levels have risen around 3 feet since then if not a bit more as archeology is continually discovering sunken roads, ports, and even prehistoric villages underwater. Often its due to land subsidence not only sea level rise and in a few areas land has risen several feet over the 2,500 years changing coast lines by several kilometers. Also there are Roman records which indicate several times being forced to relocate further inland as sea levels rose even before the Dark age rise which is blamed partially for setting off the age of migration. Ostia was moved 2 or 3 times and eventually abandoned due to sea level rise and silting.

Just outside the town where i live(in northern Sweden), there is a cairn monument, dated back to ca 1700-500 BC. And where it stands today, there are miles of wood land and is located several kilometers from the sea shore.

There is a sign at the spot where it says over 2500 years ago, the shoreline was only about 30 meters away from the cairn monument, so it was built near the shore line so people in boats could see it from far distance.
The sign says the water level has decreased 25 meters since then which is interesting.

Here is a pic of the sign and the cairn monument:

There are some areas like that due to factors http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_High_Coast or other reasons for land to push upwards. Generally quick changes are more often result of such activities than uplift though even 1/4 centimeter per year rise over 2,500 years are a couple meters difference.

^ True dat! I went there not long after 300 came out, and I'd seen pictures in history books, but jeez is that place flat!

Also, YES! Frozen rivers in the winter. Excellent idea.
