    Default Siege Equipment

I'm playing with the Romans, and I can't seem to produce catapults or anything like that. I have the polybian reforms. I have not invaded Hellas yet (if that's important) - except for Kydonia. Any advice?

Don't buy siege equipment - it is really expensive and not that cost-worthy.

I don't think the Romans get any Native artillery until they hit Marian; I *believe* they get some Greek artillery as Regionals, but I'm not certain of that.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

Well, I finaly got siege equipment. As soon as you get the Marian reforms you can make it. Those Marian reforms are a to reach... - with the 90 settlements route.

yeah, 90 setlements is a lot... personally i always change the script so i get them sooner without being so huge.. i always play historically, so i dont conquer lands left and right, restricting myself to real dates Romans captured certain lands, and its quite problematic get Marian reforms... especially because you could get Reformator figure sooner, but if he dies, you will never get another..

And for Siege Equipment, they are too costly and too slow on campaign map so i almost never use them... but they could be useful if you have to defend some place..

just an odd note from a recent battle involving seige engines

214... I'm Makedonia defending a bridge against Ptolemies.... enemy had 2 stone throwers and 2 arrow projectors.....

I was archer heavy.... i sent 2 HA's across the ford and hit 2 of the 4 engines with arrows and was able to take them out (some Kretans behind the bridge helped)....

however, one of the arrow projectors and one of the stone throwers must have had a cloak of invulnerability.... even though they were clearly in range, my archers would NOT target them.... very odd.

as a result, they took out alot of my defending phalanx as well as some Kretans....

finally sent some HC over the ford and routed the engines.

i just found it strange that the archers couldn't fire on the nearby enemy arrow projector....

I don't know if it's related, but whenever I attack with siege equipment (I mean battering rams etc.) they catch fire when you look at them the wrong way, but whenever I'm besieged, they seem almost invulnerable to fire attacks. Towers plus several fire archers, they hardly ever burn.
