Slytherins tend to be ambitious, shrewd, cunning, strong leaders, and achievement-oriented. They also have highly developed senses of self-preservation. This means that Slytherins tend to hesitate before acting, so as to weigh all possible outcomes before deciding exactly what should be done. The Slytherin common room is found in the dungeons of Hogwarts Castle, under the Dark Lake.

Atticus made his way to the dungeons after the feast, feeling almost sick at how much he had eaten. He gave the password and the barrel swung open revealing the dim, green glow of the Slytherin common room. He knew his bags were already in his room, waiting for him, and Regis was crouched on a sofa, sleeping. He crossed the room, avoiding several older students, and took a seat by the fire, enjoying the warmth. He kept a lookout for the elusive Nigel.

Geoffrey Cleaver gives the password to the Slytherin Common Room and enters now. He had enjoyed the feast and gotten to known some of his fellow classmates. He yawned slightly as he walked into the Common Room.

Atticus was not feeling quite himself, and perhaps spoke out due to feeling a tad sick from dinner.

"What kind of name is 'Cleaver', anyway?

Geoffrey stops and notices Atticus sitting on the couch. He shrugs slightly.

Father told me little. He speculates that we must have been of the butcher trade or perhaps tree cutters in the Medieval period or later. A means of keeping our identity a secret from early Muggles. So the name eventually evolved into 'Cleaver'...according to him.

He walks over and sits down, looking at the fire place.

Never got to know much about my ancestry...only that we were purebloods.

Atticus shrugged.

"Where they cutting up muggles as well? I'm a half-blood myself, but blood's not so important. I don't think muggle borns are as magical, but blood doesn't matter as heavily as some think. I think it has more to do with magic, and the type of magic used."

Violeta walks into the common room, ingoring anyone who tries to converse with her, goes straight to the girls dorms and comes back with several Divination texts, her crystal ball, a teapot and cup, and a deck of tarot cards which she assembles near one of the fireplaces and begins practicing/studying.

Atticus shrugged.

Geoffrey's eyebrow went up when he heard Atticus' words. The type of magic used? It did make the boy wonder, but he didn't question it.

Like I said...I never got to learn much from my father about our ancestry. Left a lot of questions unanswered. First time anyone has asked about my surname.

Well if you wanted to find out more, might be good to ask her about it. She reads minds..makes predictions...might even be able to tell you about your past. She's been studying Divination for years now, it is her specialty I guess. As for me, I'll be focusing on curses this year.

Geoffrey glances at where Violeta was. Then shrugs.

For now, I am more focused on advancing my Metamorphmagi technique. And better myself in curses and hexes. Always had a knack for those two fields of spells.

He then looks at Atticus.

I might seek to know more about my family's history, but that is the least of my concerns.

Nigel steps into the common room and goes to his favorite spot in a very dark corner.

Atticus looked up from his conversation with Geoffrey.

Nigel, don't you go hiding wherever you've been hiding the past three years. Get over here! Now that I know you exist I must insist that you join in. Some house cohesion would be good, no?

Nigel looks at Atticus as he speaks and very reluctantly goes over to join him and the other student he was conversing with.

My corner over there though, its cosy and nobody bothers me...

Which is precisely why you will no longer go and hide in it! Slytherin has been too divided in the past, we need to be more cohesive, more group oriented. Besides, who wants to hang out with Ravenclaws or Hufflepuffs? We need to stick together. I'll admit Gryffindor is tolerable on occasion, but then they get arrogant. In the dungeons, at least, we need to be friends. Wouldn't you agree?

Nigel isn't a very people person, but he has to agree.

Yes, I would agree. Although to be friends with you I'd have to be friends outside of the dungeons aswell.

Not necessarily. The other houses stay away from us still, its all Cecil and Weatherby can do to stop from wincing whenever they have to include me...just to keep up appearances. I hate to be immodest, but I'm better than them at a few things, potions to name one. Gryffindors want to surround themselves wit the best of everything, but I see through that. Plus, they're so damned noble, too good to try anything risky. I'd like to have a few friends who wouldn't be afraid to bend the rules a bit, experiment a bit..

Nigel thinks Atticus can be trusted and decides to take a leap...

Speaking about bending the rules and experimenting... Me and another student were talking on the train about having a, let us say club, to learn some -extra curses-the teachers won't teach us...

Which student was this? I won't deny that I've thought about giving curses a little bit more practice myself. Maybe I could help you organize something...

Nigel takes a moment to remember his name before responding.

His name was Lance. I mentioned something of this after we had a short talk about powerful wizards. We covered a few of the basics, Voldemort, Dumbledore, Grindlewald, and several more along those lines.

Violeta occassionally glimpses over at the group of boys conversing about wizards and magic. Only faintly caring when they mentioned curses at one point, she remains focused on the teacup in front of her. "Acorn..windfall, unexpected gain. What appears to be the falcon..deadly enemy..and the sun? Seriously? Those three together means you conquer an enemy to make some form of gain and then achieve happiness? Sounds like a fairly tale." She stares transfixed into the fireplace, watching the dancing embers and moves closer and closer to it, stopping only slightly in front of it. She then speaks in some form of ancient chant that she must've learned from a book. "Xio, Welyos Tanin, Zene. Felur Morte aven. Marin ceste vex."
