Default What kind of "exotic" units can we expect?

Elephants ofcourse are in (as expected)
but what kind of units/warmachines beside classic Infantry- and Horsemen with spear/bow/sword do you expect/hope to see?

    Chariots?
    Camels?
    Warhounds?
    Greek Fire?
    Grenadiers?

RTW had bruning pigs, right? Any chance for their return?

I neither played the first RTW nor the new STWs so I'm interested what people with a bit more experience or knowledge might think

I want to say Martians, but maybe they are too exotic...

I expect naked Barbarians. (eye candy)

Chariots/Camels definitely. Warhounds im not sure..i mean they were used occasionally but i dunno if they want to put in alot of effort into doing the models/animations/sounds just for 1 unit that isn't even that common. Greek Fire would be cool but there is no evidence it was used in this era, and im not really a huge fan of how fire works in Shogun 2(the fact that it's random + that it's REALLY annoying isn't exactly my idea of fun) but if they can make it work properly, and make it a really rare and hard to get ship i don't mind it that much. There will be a pig unit of some kind, it's unknown if it will be on fire or not.

Well, in Rome we had elephants, cataphracts, flaming pigs, naked fanatics, camels... so expect something along those lines this time round. As long as they are balanced and not overly-powerful, then I'm fine with it. After all, variation is the spice of life!

I bet there will be female horse archers for Scythians and black warriors for Egypt.

    Don´t worry.
"No pigs were harmed during the production of this game."

Chariots for the Eastern Kingdoms, such as the Seleucids and the Pontians.
Under the patronage of Emperor Maximinus Thrax
"Steps to be taken in case Russia should be forced out of war considered. Various movements [of ] troops to and from different fronts necessary to meeting possible contingencies discussed. Conference also weighed political, economic, and moral effect both upon Central and Allied powers under most unfavorable aspect from Allied point of view. General conclusions reached were necessity for adoption of purely defensive attitude on all secondary fronts and withdrawing surplus troops for duty on western front. By thus strengthening western front [those attending] believed Allies could hold until American forces arrive in numbers sufficient to gain ascendancy."

There are some references in later eras to elephants with an obscene amount of men. Enough that five or six seems like a reasonable estimate.

Marco Polo describes an elephant having 12-16 warriors at the Battle of Vochan.

Third Book of Maccabees alleges Indian elephant can carry 32 warriors.

Philostratus in the Life of Appolonius II, c.ii says that 10-15 warriors could be carried on an elephant.

Elephant sent by Timur Khan to the Sultan of Egypt was said to have 20 drummers

Nicolo di Conti, visiting Burma in 1435, says that 8-10 was the number.

Caesar Frederick in 1568 states four.

Christopher Barri in Cochin China (1633) says that ordinardly the Burmese elephant had 13-14 warriors. Six on each side, mounted on two tiers of three each.
All from a dated wargaming book, The Armies and Enemies of Ancient China by John P. Greer. That doesn't change the validity of the references. However, I would profess a complete skepticism about such wide numbers and except for Maccabees and Philostratus, all that is related to the Burmese and Middle East. And we have most resources stating around/up to 4-5 for the little castle bit on the elephant in the west.

Well, i guess the Parthians/Pontus will get a Unit of Immortals, but they won´t be presented with Bows and Spears - they will look similar to the 300 Movie.

    My mods
-Mod Leader for the Wheel Of Time This is not the beginning, but it is a beginning
-Mod Leader for Shogun 2: Foreign Invasion if you want a mod with alot of units this is for you, not only is there the 40 units CA made theres planned to be atleast 177 NEW units when its done.
-Modder in the World War I and Shogun II project. The only full scale mod for FOTS and it plays nothing like FOTS. FOTS may have Gatling guns, WW1&S2 has tekidanto samurai, SNLF, MGs, kisho snipers, assault infantry(shotguns) just to name a few.

They won't get them since the Immortals weren't used after Alexander took over. Also, Pontos is a mixture of Greek and various Anatolian components, as well as Persian influence.

Sri Lankan War Elephants were in high demand as imports into the known world. They were more aggressive than other Elephants. They were armed with a very long, very heavy chain attached to their trunk which had a heavy iron wrecking ball on the end. I'd love to use them.
