    Default The Russian Revolution

    Tens of thousands gather
The rally appeared as big as the last major protest in June, which also attracted tens of thousands. More of the demonstrators, however, came not as members of the varied political organizations that make up the protest movement, but with groups of friends and co-workers, some of them organizing on social networks.

After lengthy talking about Syria with my Russian friend, she said that the Russian regime is the same as the Syrian one! So will the Russians revolt against Putin and his mafia?

    And replace Putin with what?

And lets remember the whole Russian bureaucracy is like a confederation of mafia - it is not Putin's fault, as it was like this since Soviet time.

Yes, I agree. No one man could dismantle the exploitative system that was set up in Russia in the 90s, so Putin did the next best thing -- he put himself at the top of the totem pole.

Once a political decision has been reached to proceed with internal disturbances in Syria, CIA is prepared, and SIS (MI6) will attempt to mount minor sabotage and coup de main [sic] incidents within Syria, working through contacts with individuals. Incidents should not be concentrated in Damascus. [A] necessary degree of fear, [...] frontier incidents and [staged] border clashes [will] provide a pretext for intervention. The CIA and SIS should use [...] capabilities in both psychological and action fields to augment tension. [Funding should be provided for a] Free Syria Committee [and arms should be supplied to] political factions with paramilitary or other actionist capabilities.

I have relatives in Russia and i visit it every now and then, Putin really isn't all that bad.
And how that be compared to Syria where tens of thousands are being slaughtered?

Putins most dangerous opposition probably comes from (somehow) nostalgic Stalinists and Neo-Nazis. What does he have to fear?

The fact that a good portion of the opposition is mad at Putin for not being crazy enough is truly frightening.

Not really, within the past couple of years he managed to piss of most of the country's population. I'd give him a few month, max year and a half before situation reaches the critical point.

The democratic opposition is a shambles for the moment. They need to seriously get their act together, find a leader that won't be arrested and try to wrestle power from Putin politically, and if all else fails, violently.

I don't think Russians necessarily want the kind of Liberal Democracy you find in the West though...

I would say the chances of a revolt in Russia against Putin and his government are zero and mere wishful thinking by some malcontent,s.

I giggle like a little girl every time I see the intro video for Red Alert 2.

Anyway, if Russia are going to have a revolution again, I hope they hurry up and do it because a couple of friends of mine and I are going on a huge trip through Russia in a couple of years.

My gut feeling says Russia will implode, and the only thing holding it together will be the oligarchs' private security forces.

If it does, I do hope any breakaway states are in the Asian section. The last thing we need is too wait another hour for the Eurovision results - it's bad enough that the Balkans keep tearing each other to pieces.

Oh, look, tens of thousands of protesters in a country of dozens millions. Meanwhile, in the USA, Australia, Italy, Spain.....

"Steps to be taken in case Russia should be forced out of war considered. Various movements [of ] troops to and from different fronts necessary to meeting possible contingencies discussed. Conference also weighed political, economic, and moral effect both upon Central and Allied powers under most unfavorable aspect from Allied point of view. General conclusions reached were necessity for adoption of purely defensive attitude on all secondary fronts and withdrawing surplus troops for duty on western front. By thus strengthening western front [those attending] believed Allies could hold until American forces arrive in numbers sufficient to gain ascendancy."

It's pretty silly to intimate that people actively protesting in the street are the only ones who have those feelings.

It's pretty silly to intimate that just because some people don't like Putin, it means that nobody does.
