Default Looking for new Roman skins

As the title implies, I'm looking for new skins and possibly new models, for Rome Total War.

There's a catch however, they have to be compatable with SigniferOne's Animation Mod, Camillius's Four Turns Per Year Mod, and Rome Total Realism: Platinum Edition.

As much as I enjoy the realistic skins that come with RTR, I'm dismayed that the Post-Marian Legionaries don't have Lorica Segmentata. I realize it didn't really come around until the first century, but the armor looks much nicer than the Lorica Hamata.

One skin/model in particular caught my eye recently. It just looks absolutely amazing.

[Though I think the image itself was touched up a bit in photoshop to make them look better.]

What I'm not particularly interested in would be new units. I just want to replace the skins and possibly models that come with RTR: Platinum for some that look better, even at the cost of being ahistorical.

That is an urban cohort by ferres. In the downloads section you will find Ferres Roman Skins, as well as AIcord's UI to complement them. They are, quite simply put, amazing units and as long as you know how to code them by hand into the game (not hard, look in tutorials section if you dont) they will be compatible with all the things you mentioned.

Not exactly, imo these are the SPQR-Praetorians (which, afaik, are based on the former).

Apart from that there are also Prometheus ts Romans for Res Gestae, which might spark your interest.

You can find both these mods + dl-links in the major mod-section.

As Publius said, there are also ferres' Legions, which you can find in the dl section. You might also want to risk a glance at his thread in the featured "artist section" as there is an update on his stuff coming soon and it's looking absolutely stunning.

Ah yes, on closer inspection it does look to be a little different. Ferre's is very, very close to that however

Thanks, this should prove useful. Hopefully I'll be able to figure out the modding tutorials so I can put a few of these units in my games.

    Edit:
I've been looking around and everything is proving very difficult. The SPQR mod is a .exe installer, so I can't really peruse it to find that nice Preatorian skin. I wasn't able to find the tutorial section from the frontpage; actually, I haven't really been able to find anything. [Ferre's mod seems to have dissaperrated.]

Okay, to make things simpler, let's say I just want to use the SPQR Praetorian skin [The one in the above image] for my Legionaries. Where should I look to for help on accomplishing this goal? [Location to get the skin, Tutorial for installing new skins, etc.]

I attached all the files you need to implement the Praetorians.

The easiest thing would be, simply to replace another unit and re-name the UI accordingly and enter the model's name from the descr_model_battle.txt in the according entry of the export_descr_unit.txt .

The best way to proceed, is, as I said, either to replace a unit (and mod it's stats) or by copying and pasting the entries of a similar unit,i.e. roman legionaries and change them accordingly.

Here's a list of the files you have to take care of:

This tutorial is a bit more exhaustive:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=23937

I think there were some better tutorials once, but I can't find them atm.

    Many, many thanks!

    Edit:
Ho' boy does this ever look like a lot of work. Time to get crackin' on it.

Slith, just so you know if you want to use units in a mod that uses a .exe installer, just have it install to an empty folder. Then all of the files will be there for you to pick and choose from

Aye, I was wondering if that might work. I had even downloaded the SPQR mod [177MB's ] to test it out. Anyways, the skin seems to be working. [It was a lot easier than I had expected.] There's only one catch.

When the unit commences the pilum throwing animation, they hold a spear. [as opposed to pilum] Backwards. The unit then makes the full throwing animation while holding this backwards spear, which causes pilum to shoot out the butt end of their spears and into their enemies. It's very strange. Though liveable I suppose.

Thats a model error I think - what unit are you using?

I've replaced the Legionary model with the SPQR Praetorian model.

However, It's been causing some CTD's in the tests I've done, so I'm going to attempt making an entirely new unit for the skin.

You have to be careful taking things from mods, because sometimes they use different animations packs and also (especially in SPQR) the unit stats will be way, way different than vanilla.

I don't think that anything has been changed that would make this model incompatible with other mods, or even vanilla RTW (I could check it out , but it's too hot).

My suspicion is some minor error, like a typo, are you using -show_err ?

In case you're not, click on properties of your RTW desktop-shortcut and add the command line. All done,it should look something like this:
    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err

    EDIT:

Did I mention, that it's hot ?Yes ?Okay, my fault, I sent the Praetorian-cav model, which has a spear instead of the Pilum. Here's the correct model:

My target line currently is [was]: "C:\Games\Rome Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -mod

I've changed it now to: "C:\Games\Rome Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -show_err -mod

I'm getting pretty close to finished on adding the new unit to my game. [I'm figuring out what buildings should train them right now.] Hopefully everything works perfectly on the first try.

I was wondering why the descr_model_battle.txt was reffering to Hollywood cohorts when the files actually had a different name.

    Edit:
You know, this is pretty fun. I just finished doing all the text editing for adding my new unit to the game. I'm about to test and see if it actually works.

    -Update-
Wewt. Worked like a charm. Though I still have to test the training requirements, which may take awhile as I set the unit to only be available post-marius and with Roman Citizenship. [I'm at year 272 or so right now. ]

Hmmm, having a problem downloading the files. It comes up with "corrupt archive" error each time I try to open, although it says download finished.

I've combined everything into one download for you in the attachment. In case the attachment doesn't work, here's an alternative download location: http://www.ihud.com/file.php?file=fi...torian+Mod.zip

Hey, I was able to (through some copy and paste work) put this amazing praetorian skin onto ferres' brilliant new praetorian model, not sure if anyone else has done that though...

I reckon the result was pretty good

What do you guys think? :hmmm:
I've got half a mind to kill you...and the other half agrees.

Very nice skin, but i dontīt like the crest.

I made a similar creste long time ago,but the problem is that he has to many vertex (3000) and he looks transparent from the side

Then i made a new crest with only 290 vertex, that i will use for the pretorians in Casus Belli.
