    Default directx install question

Finally got around to installing MTW2 and afterward made the virtual store/UAC changes after I got the following missing file message at start-up: "can't start because D3DX9_30.DLL missing from computer".

Is this because I unchecked the directx install box?

Have brand-new computer that has DX11 - so figured not to check-it and screw up DX11.

You will need dx9. Dx10/dx11 never contained, never will.

    Irishron:

    Thanks.

Have read the bit about the UAC also, but do you just turn it off on install and then make the changes per http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=397636

or turn it off always when running the game?

Also noted your comment on C:/games as location as opposed to within program files then?

http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to...-in-windows-7/ If not done so. Mine's been off since Vista was released since I'm the only user of the computer.
C:\Games with the UAC disabled gets away from Microsoft's idea of a secutiry layer and the virtual store problems.
Many mods don't work with the UAC enabled.
Microsoft's site right now is acting up on me trying to get to theDirectx End-User Runtime page. May you have better luck.
While you're at it, activate your copy of Windows and run Windows Update manually installing all software options. Computer manufacturers never do. Windows autoupdate is a piece of crap.

Got it - just turn it off and forget the fancy directions - as I'm only user here also. Firewall and ms security essentials should guard on any external threat, and I just may block traffic when I play anyway. UAC will turn back on after playing.

I had no trouble downloading the dx9 updater you had linked - one I downloaded was dated 3/30/11.

Windows copy activation - pretty sure that was done when I had home install - along with the office activations.

But will run the windows update manually.

    Thanks for the patience.

No problem. Hope it all works out. Dx date is the last update.

On the Win update - when you say manual - do you mean go to ms website itself and read thru then what they have available? Are you saying the scanner on its on or when you get it to check does a crap job of finding what to update?

That will work. The patches will find it. Enjoy playing.
