Default "Israeli soldiers talk about the occupied territories" - Israeli NGO

This is an Israeli NGO site about the experiences of Israeli soldiers in the "occupied territories".

    http://www.breakingthesilence.org.il/

Avi Primor, a former Israeli ambassador to Germany, about Breaking The Silence: "passionate patriots", that want to help to realize the zionist ideal of a just nation. "They aim for no less than human rights and thus also for the survival of the state of Israel." (my translation from this German spiegel-online article -> last paragraph)

This is a site - IMPO of course - that shows both the worst and best of Israel. A site that shows a side of Israel, that is perhaps forgotten nowadays, due to the current radical right-wing government... An Israel that has respect for the occupied Palestineans and that want's to live in peace with it's neighbours... and that can then be (more) supported by, eg., it's European friends --> once it withdraws from the Palestinian territories and dissolves all the Jewish settlments there.

It bothers me how the US speaks of Israel as though it were politically united in the Palestinian question, with no regard for its center-left elements.

    I'm so not fond of a right-wing, settler-orientated Israel...

But I would support an Israel, that defends it borders with all (nuclear...) military means and that has respect for the Palestinians -- which are sadly atm humiliated and treated as minor-people compared to Jewish settlers.

Where is the truely democratic and humanistic Israel that I would like to support?? The Israel as it should be?

No way I'll be fond of the current right-wing-orthodox Isreal.

Can't anyone in Isreal vote in my favour, so that I can support Israel - atm that's simply not possible. I can't stand these idiots...

It bothers me too but there is a good reason for it, in that the only meaningful relationship the United States government has with Israel is within its right wing. This is because of two factors: one, this relationship sustains a healthy arms trade which serves the local needs of American producers and investors as well as the needs and ideology of the pro-military Israeli right, and two, the Israeli right is the side willing to put up the money and lobbying effort to sustain this relationship and keep the pressure on. The Israeli center-left relies on intellectualism, literature, and rhetoric to push its message, but the Israeli right speaks in the language that really matters in American politics -- money.
