Be friendly to noone, crush all who venture before you, rip their lives away from them, steal their livestock, pillage their homes and seduce their women.

I guess if I were you I would conquer scotland first, then build a small fleet and sail an army to ireland and take over that. Then start to cocoon (disband most of your offensive army and keep only a small defensive army for putting down rebels, start to build up your newly conquered towns so they give you more cash) and put some of your newly earned wealth into a nice armada and secure the seas around you from enemies and pirates. After that, pick a place you'd like to invade, either the lands of the norseman to your east or the lands of the celts or germanics to your south. I'd probably spread east into denmark and sweden, and after that spread further East into modern day Russia. After that I'd go south from britannia and establish a foothold either on brittany or normandy.

I haven't played Brits, but have fought them many times as the Gauls.

I would have said, "Send diplomats out to Gaul, Germania, Dacia, Spain and Carthage, in order to secure trade rights. You have to fight at least one of these, but you want trade rights with everyone else, to pump your economy. Find out who is fighting against the most enemies (i.e. who is most vulnerable and occupied) and pick on them."

But, since Gaul is already at war with you, it looks like the "stuckee" has been decided. Get trade rights with everyone else. What political difficulty are you playing? If on Hard or easier, then Gaul is probably also at war with at least two of the following: Germania; Dacia; the Julii; and Spain. I would expect them to at least be in a death struggle with the Julii, since the Julii have no other place to expand.

First secure your islands and pump economy, as was suggested. Except I would not disband good fighting troops. Instead, use them to capture a target of your choice. Secure the straits (kill off those pirate fleets). Then go for Samarobrivia (if you've lost it) or Condate R., and then I would personally work south, trying to go as long as possible without sharing a border with anyone except Gaul.

Briton's strength is in its cav, especially the general's heavy chariots, which can eat any Gaul cav unit for breakfast. We all know that the general is the most important unit. It is even more so for the Brits. Make sure your generals get plenty of time in town to make babies and rotate them out to the field to get combat stars. Protect them. Don't let them get near heavy infantry or spears.

Again, I have not played as Briton, but I would probably load up on archers or chariot archers, enough defensively stout infantry to protect them, and take 2 to 4 generals in a conquest stack. A ratio that I think would do O.K would look like this: 3 infantry (best you can build), 3 archers/CA, and 1 general.

Enemy Heavy infantry and spears/Phalanx: Use arrow fire, preferably to the flanks and rear.
Every other enemy unit: Use arrow fire and the general's Heavy Chariots (Keep the general clear of your own arrow fire.)

Run your generals deep into enemy territory and crucify any unprotected ranged units and light cav. Try to gang up multiple units if you meet heavy cav. Stay away from heavy infantry and spears; but get close enough to make enemy units momentarily break off their advance against your archers and turn their backs to them. Run chariot archers up the relatively less armored right flank of the enemy and shoot into their right flank and backs.

In short, destroy all the soft targets with the general and (very important) get the harder ones to slow down their advance and turn their backs or flanks to your archers. Your relatively inferior infantry should do O.K. when they only have to deal with severely attrited and demoralized enemy units.

Gaul is, relative to most other factions, weak against cavalry. They are also relatively less well armored, so arrows are fairly deadly.

Anyway, as the questions as repeated clear I will try my best and respond:

Playing as Britannia, your first enemy (in most cases) will be Germania. Those Huns will nearly always attack Belgium early (do not consider this a personal offense, they just need Belgium as their traditional invasion route to France..errr...Gaul), so prepare for defense! You have to keep a garrison in Belgium to fight off the Germans and at the same time build an army (for the counterstrike) in Britain. Also build some Navy to clear the waters. You will need it! If you are strong enough to strike, ship your armies over to the continent and invade Germania. Be sure to keep a small force guarding the western belgian border (maybe the Gauls will attack you here!). Germania should be finished soon. Do not expand too far East at this moment, because it could mean conflict with Dacia or even Scythia. Better even leave a Germanian village alone if it is too far east. But in any case, capture Tribus Saxoni (modern day Denmark) even if the Germanians did not yet hold it. Nice trade route to your homeland after building a port.

Now, your primary enemy in the early game, the evil world-conquering, poland-invading, blitzing-around Huns are history. It is a good time to end your hitherto friendly approach towards Gaul (you were friendly until now, werenīt you? it is important to keep your back clean, nothing worse than a two front war against Gaul and Germania in the early game...) and teach those frogeaters a lesson in British supremacy. During this phase, look for good terms with the Julii (very important! They have interest in Gaul, probably border you in southern Germania or will do so soon, and have quite a strong army) and Iberia (not as important, but also not bad; Iberian navies could interfere with your naval warfare at the coast of Gaul, you want to avoid this). Compared to Germania, Gaul should be a little bit easier to defeat. You attack from two directions, from the east (cranking out troops from your newly conquered once-germanian towns) and from the north (shipping britain-bred troops over the Channel), while the Gauls have to defend in two directions (always bad) and probably at the same time are tied down in some conflict at their southern border (Julii maybe? talking about Alliance...).
A piece of cake, isnīt it?

Now you have conquered Germania and Gaul. This means that your first adversaries are wiped out, and you now have a decent empire to build your economic base. This will be your task for the next years. Upgrade your cities, build armies, and move them to your borders to prepare for the next war.

The natural targets in the next step will either be Iberia or the Julii (because they are bordering you now). Iberia normally is weaker, and the only feasible target for your navy (which you built up during the wars with Germania and Gaul, you remember?) which would otherwise sit around wasting money. But personally I take on the Julii first. They are more dangerous. Donīt let them grow. Strike hard and fast. It will take some high casualities to beat them down, but then your worst enemy in this region (northwestern Europe) is removed. You should really try them first, it is just horrible to be busy in a war with Iberia and suddenly the Romans invade your Hinterland.

In case the Iberians make any trouble during your virctorious crusade towards Italia, you will send your (stronger!) Navy to rule the seas (as Britannia always does) and blockade their ports, damaging their economy, while at the same time a small token force will be enough to bottle their land units up in Spain - just build two or three Forts blocking the few passages through the Pyrennae mountains (those rocky things between France and Spain). This will win enough time to finish the Julii, and after the roman pain is removed from your a** you have time and men to teach those Iberians what it does mean to mess with a people which is tough enough to drink warm beer

Important during this phase: build the conquered cities in northern Italy up to be a formidable defence line against any Roman counterattacks. Seek for an alliance with Carthage (they have interest in conquering Spain and hate the Romans - ideal allies!) and maybe macedon to keep Scipii and Brutii busy. With Iberia conquered, give it another phase of building up the economy in your empire.

In the next step, you have many many directions where you could strike. But I strongly recommend Italy. The Romans will not forget the fate of the Julii. You are at war with them. Sooner or later, they will grow stronmger than you. Beat them before!

(I guess I can skip battle tactics, as Noble Nick wrote quite an article?)
