    Default Question concerning Romani

I've got two questions concerning the Romani faction,

    1. I read that the cursus honorum which you guys are implementing as a script will require your FM to return to Rome if you want to get them elected, however what if you have a FM who is lets say a consul, and his term ends and he turns into a proconsul. I realize a proconsul still retains imperium however its only over the province it governs(disregarding Pompey), will a proconsul still be able to march legions throughout the map? Also, since a proconsuls term last a year, are you still required to go to rome to get re-elected?

    2. Also as far your new government system goes, I realize the differences between a Client State and a Civitates Liberae and I know of it historical use but in terms of gamplay wat is the advantage of having a client state over Civitates Liberae? From the gameplay description you wrote, they sound like a the same thing however I'm guessing that a Client State will at least let you be able to recruit some native units from that province.

I don't know what the EB teams plans are for the Romani however I did want to clear one thing up, a Pro-Consuls term were not limited to one term. It was the normal amount of time however it wa not conpletely unheard of for a persons Pro-Consulship to last for a few years e.g Caesar was given a 5 year term in Gaul and that was renewed for another 5 years making 10 years in total (though this was pretty exceptional). Also in the Imperial era the Emperor gained his ability to control the military, i.e his imperium, from his pro-consulship which was for life.

Well generally a proconsuls term was set to one year but like you said Caesar was the exception in part thanks to his alliance with crassus and pompey however I do believe that for gameplay purposes, the standard time of 5 years would be ideal because then you could still maintain imperium and besiege or attack whoever you like, although not historically accurate considering it was illegal for proconsul and promagistrates to attack outside their provinces they governed but it would give you extra time to do what you wanted, like what caesar did in gaul.

I recall Gaius Marius having been 5-6 times a consul. (very expectional)

Yes, well Gaius Marius probably fabricated the tale of finding 7 eggs as a means to be re-elected multiple times(because people actually bought it) but generally there was a 10 year wait before one could become elected as consul again. In fact it Sulla himself made it so that there was a 10 year interval before being reelected for the same office as part of his constitutional reforms. Though the reforms were removed when pompey and crassus became consuls so i guess that doesnt count.

I thought about using Marius as an example with his famously prophesised 7 consulships, the seventh lasting 17 days if I recall, but decided that was to exceptional
