Who agrees with me we (U.S) have a horribly inefficient school system built for basically the 19th century. The public school system is currently nothing but a drain on the economy. (End Rant)

One day you'll grow up and realise you do nothing resembling a days work whatsoever.
Hey, just get rid of school altogether and soon enough your country will be a replication of Liberia.
Actually reducing the school hours per day is not a bad idea. You just need to simultaneously provide students with a way to focus on something they're interested in learning, in an environment that encourages learning (which public schools obviously don't do.)
Truth is, kids waste too much time in public school right now, and don't spend enough of that time building skills, or learning.
No this isn't what i mean I meant a reform where we'd do Math, Sciences, Government Civics, and English with the aid of new technology. Scrap all the classes not don't benefit you but are required by standards. So basically refocusing into a more compact more efficient day where more can get done.
This thread needs to be moved to the Thema Devia for more intellectual discussion.

I agree, truly the thespians that populate the TD will make this thread a rousing intellectual discussion.
That or the ponies will take over.

Yeah that place is awesome and air-conditioned. You need to have that.

I'd be in favour of a system where a student only studies reading, writing and arithmetic until he is at a good level. After that, he can expand his learning into other future work-related subjects. If he never reaches a good level, then he graduates never having done anything else but reading, writing and arithmetic, and gets a job as a toilet cleaner at McDonalds. Non work related subjects, the parents can organise it after school.
Oh and America, giving university scholarships to semi-literate athletes is retarded.
Hey, it pays millions of dollars, they buy library's with the revenue, if they have to accept a retard or two because he's fast/hits people hard, it balances out. Though some schools have more, lenient *cough* Miami *cough* academic standards than others.
And yes, I'v seen way to many people in my university classes that have to read out 'one. word. at. a. time.' and don't have any reading comprehension whatsoever. It's pathetic really, how they make it past the 5th grade is beyond me. Primary level education, public, government funded education specifically, needs an overhaul. To bad it's not going to happen anytime soon.

In the US? Quite frankly, no. The political system is to mired down in the Economy and bickering, not to mention the last substantial "reform" is widely viewed as a failure. I'm simplifying the situation to a stupefying degree, but in short, no education reforms of any serious nature are going to happen in the US at any point in the next decade or so. Barring a major political shift.

Only if the rest of the day is spent working the line in a factory.
"When I die, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like Fidel Castro, not screaming in terror, like his victims."
My shameful truth.
Pray tell, How can the education system be reformed? in your opinion of course.
