hard drive space dramatic drop

ok earlier today my comps hard drive had about 17 gigs left on it... but all of a sudden that number dropped all the way down to 1.14 gigs and i didnt install anything....

anyone know what happened and how i can fix it?

Has the actual total size decreased randomly or has it just filled up?

In any casr thats an awfuly large amount of space to just vanish, it shouldnt be hard to figure out where it went by just looking through the drive to see what folders are taking up all the room

it just decreased randomly... i didnt install anything or create anything thats 16 gigs of memory..

Do a disk cleanup (My Computer->harddrive->cleanup) or get one of those programs that clear unwanted temporary files. Its possible some program you ran used up alot of disk space and didnt clean up it up for some reason. Biggest hog is usually web browers and their temporary folders. If not might want to look for any trojans/viruses etc. Also make sure system restore isnt set to an amazingly high % for some reason.

Depends on how big the harddrive is

Since you said it was a sudden increase though look for temp wasted files and or some type of virus first though. System restore claims disk space instantly so unless you or someone else changed it recently it probably wouldnt be the cause.

ok... ive done all of that but i only got like 6 gigs... but ive been looking at how much i had since then and it keeps going down by .01 gigs everytime... PLZ SOMEONE HELP!!
