    Default A question about Milan

Why isn't the proud and rich Duchy of Milan added into the mod ? I believe it would be nice to have a war with Genoa and stuff . Also , the duchy itself has a very interesting history ! Why wasn't included in the late campaign , when it had it's most powerful period ?

I think it was too insignificant to take up a slot, besides there are plenty of factions in Italy already.

Questions about extra factions, Catholic factions in particular, come up often. Simply put, the faction limit is 31 (including rebels), and Western Europe is represented well enough; Eastern Europe is heavily neglected. There isn't any shortage of Orthodox or Muslim factions that deserve a place.

Since the Duchy of Milan wasn't created until ~1395, it's rather ahistorical for it to be present in a campaign starting ~1220. It really should be factions that existed at the time (there isn't any shortage of those either ). It's also best not to waste slots on emergent factions, as vanilla SS already has the Timurids in Late (the Duchy of Milan would come later).

By all means, feel free to create your own submod featuring the Duchy of Milan, and share it with the community if you also want to (so much effort goes into modding that you might find you want other people to enjoy the fruits of your labour); it's unlikely that the team working on SS 7.0 will contemplate adding in the faction for the reasons outlined above.

Technically they still existed as a political entity in 1220, and fought against the Mongols. Doesn't mean they can't be replaced by another Orthodox or Muslim faction that lasts longer than the 1230s, although the Mongols do cause a few issues in that department.

I've personally found that there's no easy way to pick Late era factions (1225 is an awkward date, let me tell you! It's one I've chosen, too...), certainly not for 12tpy (where the shortlived factions don't die within 15 years - 15 or 30 turns depending on your submod choices - but 180 turns instead).

Milan is simply existing too late for current SS eras. I have it in 1390 but with my present schedule that release is going very slow.

Cumans were still quite powerful in 1100s though by 1220 it is more debatable. Personally I'd prefer Mongols to start with more territory so it doesn't take 50 turns for them to march their armies to the positions they actually reached in 10 years. With Cumans and Khwarezmians gone then Georgia, Bulgaria, Ayybubids, Seljuks of Rum and Mameluks could be present. Ayyubids replace Fatimids, Seljuks of Rum replace Great Seljuks, Novgorod and Kiev are merged with Mongols starting closer, and Georgia/Bulgaria get Cuman and Khwarezmian faction slots.

However making such large era submod is quite alot of work... more than I realized before actually so far most submods are for 1100s. I personally think ideal dates would be- 1054, 1130, 1220, 1260, 1390, 1450, and 1490.
