    Icon5 Designing custom Cities

Any chance that you will be able to build custom settlements? That way you could make your cities unique and it could really add to the feel of sieges. However spending too much on certain places and making them impenetrable deathtraps could really hurt your treasury. And you would need to build high level farms and perhaps get food imports to support larger cities.

    Anyone?

Edit: Also I think it would be nice to be able to build new cities from scratch, as oppose to improving already existing ones.

nah i dont want to build my cities - that would be too easy and it would prb ruin typical architecture of the faction u ply. What i would like to see is that modders could make customized cities based on historic data. This would be very useful in other mods as well (imagine Minas Tirith in this engine )

I would love to engineer my own cities.......if I'm paying for the wall I would love to assign how it is....

It'd be great to build ditches, dig moats, install guard towers....

Course you could just auto-build but I'd love to be able to be my own military engineer....

It'd be very rewarding to watch the enemy storm into them.....

That would be awesome, but more of a preset thing, so you could customize it for your play style.

One of the better suggestions since the floodgate of bad ideas and proposals started.

I would LOVE to improve upon cities rather than build them from scratch so I wouldn't have to spend forever building every city at the start of a campaign that being said I think the process of building up a city should go like this. Go to real time map of city. Have a list of buildings that can be build on the side and on the other have like additional stuff (wall pieces, towers, moat pieces, stakes, guardhouses etc...). You can select as many buildings as you like and place them wherever but they will all cost money and time same as b4. Then with the additional things you can build the city's defenses up as you would like them. Also the prerequisite of settlement size should be scaled back so you can build huge walls in a city but it would cost more perhaps and take longer because of a lack of builders You should b able to do the same with fort setup except with that each legion gets to customize theirs and then they can modify it when they set it up but they dont have to start from scratch.

Might be a bit too much (in regards to real time part)

If they were to do this I would imagine selecting the city and there would be a pop up of the layout and we'd be able to customize what buildings would go where. When we build our fortification upgrades then we can create kill zones.

Now it seems CA has cities as exact in Campaign map - Battle map(So far from the info about it) so i guess modding would be simplier than Shogun 2 but long and boring and advanced graphics compared to all le other TWs.

Then you get to the interesting parts, like building aqueducts and sewage systems.

No. Not in game. I don't want in game customization. What I'd want is mod tools to be able to do this sort of thing outside of the game.

Yeah, laying out every street would be unnecessary but choosing the locations of: gates, towers and makeshift defences like barricades during sieges would be a really nice touch.

How about instead of this idea we get a map editor that allows us to build custom cities outside of the game? Previously cities were a set model. We could not customize walls, etc, because cities were treated as a comprehensive model in their own right.

In game customization just subtracts from the gameplay. I don't want to be customizing my cities when other more important features of campaign map depth are neglected. Where is the economy and inner political tensions? The patrons and clients? Where is the diplomacy? Where are the protectorates and migratory settlers?

We've yet to see these things. So no way, no thanks to in game customization. That would take the game in the wrong direction, like the third person shooting of Fall of the Samurai.

    He pretty much said it.

This is Total War, not Total Sim City!

Unless CA has done something spectacular with the AI this time around.. I don't see this ever working. Still even in Shogun 2.. The siege AI is one of worst AI's I've ever seen in recent years. This would be good for anything other then the campaign though..

No just no , i dont want "Build your great city!" things. First CA should improve AI and diplomacy.

Yes, in game custom presets would be awesome.

3-4 defensive city types to choose from, maybe even a few more presets within the cities.

Would give good customization and allow you to tailor your upgraded cities to your playstyle. Pretty much no reason not to have something like this.
