Katana Samurai VS Katana Kachi

I remember that base Shogun II had a unit called Katana Samurai. As far as I remember, they looked exactly like the Katana Kachi we have in FoTS here.

I have not encountered them in multiplayer yet, but I do wish to ask that how do these units fare against each other? Is the older unit more powerful, or is Kachi better?

Any differences between them? (except for the new large pants of course )

Samurai will beat the kachi, though I forget there stats.

Kachi has higher melee attack and bigger unit size (Same number as an Ashigaru unit), but less charge bonus and lower morale. They also cost 100 gold more.

I fought a multiplayer battle today, with 3 units of Katana Kachi fighting 2 units Katana Samurai. Katana Kachi routed, even when that Samurai unit had been understrength and a Yari Kachi unit was fighting nearby.

Do Yari Kachi and Yari Samurai also have differences?

Kachi wear hakama and Katana samurai do not.

Kachi has higher melee attack (by 4), less charge bonus (by 5), less bonus against cavalry (by 10), higher melee defense (by 2), less armor (by 1) and less morale (by 2) compare to their sengoku counterpart. They have Ashigaru unit size and cost more.
Their stats makes them less specialized as their Sengoku counterpart due to their considerably lower bonus against cavalry, the higher melee makes them more of a all rounder, like Naginatas with lighter armor.

They can, in multiplayer. If one player is using Sengoku era army and other is playing from FoTS army, they will fight each other and their stats will be tested.

I got opportunity to play another such battle. So far, Katana Kachi is showing poor results when fighting against Katana Samurai, which are somewhat the same things anyway.

Yes they can, in my personal mod. Muahahaha.

They run faster and have increased resistance to fatigue as I recall, but barring hit and run your only option is to vastly outnumber the opposing samurai or to flank/reduce their numbers with missile fire, or Cavalry.

So overall, Kachi is poor compared to Samurai unit, but can win by some tactical superiority like morale and numbers?

They are acting like light infantry of Medieval II: you can give them better armour and weapons but when they are fighting the real heavy unit, they will simply lose until there is some tactical edge.

Actualy it does, because during the charge the samurai will kill slightly more with there higher charge value and there higher morale means they wont break as fast. Most instances ive seen the kachi route between 60-100 losses well samurai route between 80-100.




Edit: A slightly more interesting question is:
Which is better tekidanto samurai or katana hero or kensai?

That is if the samurai gets the charge and in prolong combat Kachi's higher melee and bigger unit number should give them an edge.

They are great against anyone unarmoured, but it is remarkable that they managed to win against the armoured Kachi. Kachi loses against Katana Samurai, so try Shogitai vs Katana Samurai. That will be the most hilarious slaughter of the Shogitai.

well its if you check out the stat and assuming all vanilla. i believe shogitai has the best stat thats why they eat katana sams and kachi. Thnik of it as an army of unit composed of Battosai's from the Rurouni Kenshin Anime.

I just tested, with Banzai! Shogitai ate Katana Samurais in like 10 seconds
Dunno how they do against Banzai! Nodachi Samurais though.

Edit: Did it again without using Banzai!, they still easily won just took longer because they killed less on the charge. (Only lost like 68 of them).
In both occasions they were up against exp 2 Katana Samurai's to even out the cost.
