Default The Varangian Camp in the Gaetan Amphitheater

The Varangian Camp in the Gaetan Amphitheater

This is where, after the landing of Canute Haraldsson on the Gaetan coast in late spring, a temporary base
camp for his band of Varangians was set up.
Pushing out all other squatters and other would-be "users" of the ruins, they set up their tents and fires inside the theater itself.
This, of course, has angered the nearby cities of Gaeta and Capua, probably intentionally.

The amphitheater and its immediate surroundings are constantly watched and guarded by sentries,
very aware of the hostile environment they have entered in Mezzogiorno.
If you approach, be wary, for these hard veterans from the far North are likely to prefer to gut you and then ask questions, regardless of their young leader's preferences.

A decayed Greek-style banner is hung upon the main entrance to the amphitheater:

    -Canute Haraldsson
    -a band of Norse adventurers

Word has been sent to Constantinople for Canute's mother Euphemia to come to Italy.
She is expected to leave Greece in the spring of 1002.
