    Default Inexpensive smartphone

    Hi,

Can someone recommend an inexpensive, but decent smartphone ? My budget is around 200 Euros. I want one with decent wi-fi capabilities and decent surfing speed.

Im not an expert at the issue but you could buy older versions of the iphone. I have seen old version like the iphone 3 ranging at this price.

No, I am just buying a phone. I could get one with a cell phone plan from my current service provider, but I won't be, as that is too expensive for me.

OK well if you're not buying it with a plan, then that's gonna be a pay as you go. Which means prices get jacked up incredibly.

Uh, you're looking at something like the Samsung Dart then. Android 2.2, but limited battery, low memory, and low res screen. Or the Droid A855 which is only Android 2.0 plus the negatives of the Dart. I'm not too well versed on the smartphone market, but I do know that the prepaid stuff is limited and expensive.

I'm told the Samsung Galaxy Ace is a decent phone, if you can find one unlocked. Again though, low res, low onboard storage, low battery.

Does it have to be new? You could probably find a better used model for the same price as a new model from a shop? Somewhere like ebay?

I'd go for the HTC Desire C, which is probably the best you can get around that budget. Its specs aren't that great, but it does run Android 4.0.

If you're willing to give a bit more, around 250 Euros, you can get the LG Optimus L7 P700, which has Android 4.0 and decent specs and screen resolution.

After a talk with a friend who knows more about this stuff than me, I think will be going with Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, it's around 250 Euros, a bit expensive for me, but it does have a dual core processor. The only concern is that no one knows when or if it gets Android 4.0

iPhone 3GS is still a good smart phone and will be even cheaper after the new iPhone comes out unless you really need a Android phone. Its also a good camera and the screen and interface is of a high standard. What apps do you intend to use? Probably the best way to choose what smartphone in your budget.

Why would he get a 3GS when he can get a much better current Android for the same price?

The new Chinese phones (not HTC) are just hitting the market in the US. All the features at roughly 1/3 of the price. All they handsets are made in China anyhow. I forget the name of the manufacturer - but they all run Android.

I dont know about Europe but the best plans by far are the no-contract or the pay as you go. It still has a stigma attached to it for some reason, but choosing one of the better plans will get you unlimited data and texting for upwards of $50-60 cheaper a month. Only drawback is most times you pay full price for the phone. But that pays for itself in a few months.
