    Default Features you DON'T want to see in R2TW

    There's a lot of topics about features that you guys wish to see in upcoming R2TW. But let's talk about things that you don't want to have anymore in TW. Not any specific features exactly, but some aspects of gameplay. What really make you crazy?

    I start :}

    - Endless waves of rival armies that assaults me. It just inflate the game and make it pointless. Victory in big battle need to have real result, not to be "just another battle".

    - Faction from very far side of the map declares war on me. I understand that this game is about "total war". But it's just freaking illogical! It's not a game about modern world and US! AI would better conquer some regions around it.

    - Cheating AI. How the hell is it possible for faction to have one poor province only, super-large army and not to be a bankrupt? How is it possible to move army from conquered city the same turn after conquest and not to have massive rebellion?

    "ALL ROOUUUM WILL BE AMAZED AT SUCH A VICTORY! THE DAY IS OOOUUUWWWSS!! (In other words, crappy voice actors who are unable to pronounce latin words or anything at all for that matter)

    Albion(Britain) allying with a silly faction like Macedon. Realisticaly the two cultures have probably never even heard of each other. (In other words, bizarre and erratic AI that declares wars and alliances for no reason.)

    Pretty much everything you already said.

    NO BURNING PIGS! (Yay! this is confirmed not to be in)

    NO HUNGRY DOGS! (Most probably left out, so Yay!)

    NO ENGLISH VOICES! (Really, Romans didn't speak English, nor did Barbarians)

    Are you expecting CA to find people who speak old celtic or germanic dialects? You'll have to wait for a zombie apocalypse bro, they've been dead for quite some time.

    The only thing I really don't want is the ETW/NTW/S2TW settlements, I want the old ones like in RTW and M2TW where there were tons of buildings.

    Hopefully they'll keep the system in Shogun 2 where cultures must "discover" each other before they can assume diplomatic relations

    Unrealistic RPS elements, like Spear Militia slaughtering Kataphracts or average Swordsmen cutting through elite Phalanxes.

    this. And also,realistic archers. I don't want to see stupid peasants armed with short bows destroying an entire unit of Kataphracts.

    Spear militia was never able to slaughter cataphracts in RTW, and average Swordsmen will just get mowned down by elite phalanxes.
    (ie, even Urban Cohort vs Spartans is still a close battle, and Urbans only win if their lines are longer than the spartans.)

    if you played RTW before, don't exaggerate, if you haven't played, don't comment like you have.



    btw, heres a screenie of a battle between 1 unit of Swordsmen (gaul) and 1 unit of Silver Shield Pikemen, (Seleucid)
    Much different from the results you predicted.

    That's a retarded AI combined with M2TW's broken pikemen.
    I ran a test, first battle I controlled the urban militia and won, because the pikemen didn't keep formation and weren't in pikewall, they just walked at me.
    Then I picked the tercio pikemen and won too, with half my force lost, mainly because they lose formation so fast and grab their swords faster than Lucky Luke grabs his pistols.

    Exactly. In M2TW, pikemen were broken, and the devs didn't bother to fix them. Plus, in the latest TW game, S2TW, spear walls were completely ineffective against infantry, as part of the infantry>spearmen>cavalry RPS system. And that unrealistic system is a feature I definately DON'T want to see in R2TW.

    I do hope you know the difference between Phalanx and Pikemen, cause they are 2 entirely different things.
    Saying Swordsmen cut apart Elite Phalanxes is a LOT different than saying Swordsmen cut apart Elite Pikemen.
    Not only is the combat style between phalanxes and pike squres different, their equipment is also completely different. A hopilite, or a phalagnite, wields a shield, a dory spear or a sarissa, and a short sword. Pikemen are armed with a single pike and a sword. THe two are quite different so please do not confuse them.
    Terico pikemen are not phalanxes. In fact, there isn't a single phalanxe unit in M2TW.
    And also cataphracts did not exist in Medieval times, thank you very much.

    This never happens. I for one would love to see a weak unit prevail over a strong one. There is luck in warfare, it's not strictly deterministic.

    Ideally the game would calculate a majority of the fight process on statistical determinism, and leave a bit of room for luck/chance to assume a role in deciding the victors.

    Besides, the way the Total Wars are based on deterministic values makes battles boring and predictable. Oftentimes you can predict correctly who will win. If there is a battle with both factions using one unit, the stronger unit always wins. Boring.

    Do u mean like things introduced in later TW-games that weren't in the original? If so:

    - No more archers having to into formation and fire it's the worst idea EVER. There should still be a range indicator for archers but it should be 360 degrees.
    - Make units slower..seriously.
