Introduction to biology books?

Are there books out there that present basic biology to people who have no clue about biology? Should i consider "biology for dummies"?

Talent and expertiese are broad subjects as well, yet the books "outliers", "The Talent Code" and "Guns, Germs and Steel" each tell the story of success and failure through different points. One expalins success through enviroment and sociological phenomenas, one explains success through a scientific examination of the process of mylienation in the brain and other neurological explanations and training techniques, while the other speaks of enviromental determinalism.


I dont expect to read one book and "poof i know this !". I wonder, if there is an array of books which explains biology through its different forms(a little chemistery, a little taxonomy, botany and zoology, maybe some physics) like the array of books which ive written above explains talent and success through different academic fields.

For a beginner, biology for dummies will help a bit. As well, perhaps a Schaum's outline of biology would help. It won't cover everything, but it should do a decent job.

However, if a bit more detailed book is required then i may recommend Biology, 9th, 8th, or 7th edition
As well StandardUser, you can always get a book that a university uses for an intro course to biology. These books usually attempt to cover as much as possible without getting too confusing.
