Ok, just an idea, I haven't thought out all the clinks;
Each player, say three, is a general (your avatar) in command of a medium sized army. They must choose what to do with it, and the goal is to become ruler of Rome through conquest and politics.
I like the idea because you can back stab the other players, perhaps assassinating their allies and supporters within the senate, or spreading lies about them to the people.
They should still try to conquer other factions, and could even work together early on.
It could come to the point where the players have created a huge army and the fate of Rome would be decided on a decisive battle (that's not to say the loser couldn't win it back).
Also, the avatars cannot be killed, only wounded for a period of time (so that the players wouldn't be constantly assassinating each other)
What do you think?
