Well I advise you to get AM2 platform, as its the newest one, and is slightly faster and will allow better future upgrade propspects.

The X2 5000 is slightly less worse against the Core 2 chips. To be honest they are both overpriced and out of date.
The only other differance is that the 5000 will be running AM2, but I can't say for sure about the 4800.
