Cannon Firing Drills
Has anyone ever thought to redo the awful vanilla firing drills for cannons in ETW & NTW? They could not be any more inaccurate and show how poorly the whole thing was researched, next to the lack of regimental colours.
The in game firing sequence is:
1. Align the cannon.
2. load the shot
2. pack the shot, for however long required to kill the base load time
3. aim the cannon
4. light some sort of fuse, firing the shot
At the least, there needs to be a sponging of the barrel, and that should be used to kill the base load time.
This firing sequence is not correct, and also, what is the lighting of a fuse by hand all about? A linstock - a wooden staff holding a length of smoldering match at the end - was used. The linstock was put to the touch-hole of the gun to light the charge. Some cannons were also flintlock, just like the muskets and pulled by a lanyard.
I do not know anything about scripting, but think an obtainable firing drill may look like this:
1. Load
2. Ram shot home
3. Aim gun
4. Some sort of action that resembles pricking & preparing lanyard, gun commander moving up to the gun.
5. Firing of the gun.
6. Bring gun back online
7. Sponging the barrel (can use same rod for ramming)
