I am new to this forums and i came across this modification to the RTW game and it seems great. I downloaded it and downloaded the patch and the fix to the 2a patch

When i try to launch the game it say the following
"You dont have Rome Total War- Barbarian Invasion installed or you installed RTR VII in the wrong folder"

I have Rome Total War Gold so i know i have Barbarian Invasion

So my question comes down to what dumb mistake did i make because i am lost

Three sanity checks:

1. Make sure you installed the game in a subfolder of your Rome Total War Gold main directory
2. Make sure that you're launching BI.exe, not RTW.exe
3. Make sure when you launch BI.exe that you point it at the subfolder created in #1, using the -mod switch

If you're playing off a CD install, then I believe the RTR launcher does #2 and #3 for you. If you're playing via Steam like me, you have to change the launch options in the properties of Barbarian Invasion in the Steam library. I set these to

-mod:RTRVII -show_err -nm

since I put the mod in a subfolder called RTRVII in my "rome total war gold" folder.

You've got to tell us a bit more before we can help you figure out how to fix your problem. Let's start with the basics: did you install Rome Total War Gold Edition from CD, or via the Steam network?

Ok, that's another option :-). Next step: where is the directory called "rome total war gold" located on your disk, i.e. what is the full path to it? An example from my system is

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rome total war gold\

(If installing RTW Gold put a shortcut on your desktop, then a quick way of finding the directory is to right-click the shortcut, select properties, and read the contents of the "Target" field. Otherwise you can use Windows Explorer to just explore the file system until you find it)

It could also be as simple as that you haven't installed the patches. I seem to recall that RTW Gold is silly and doesn't have everything patched up as it should be. You can find the download links for the patches in our Downloads and Mods Index

Ohhh yeah, good point. I know that my boxed set of RTW Gold has the old unpatched v1.5 of Barbarian Invasion (so I had to repatch it on every fresh install, grrr), whereas the RTW Gold I bought off Steam has the correct v1.6 (so I can easily install again anytime, yay).

Ok, so things to check are:
1) When you run Barbarian Invasion on its own, and go to the options screen, does it say "v1.6" in the top right corner, or "v1.5"?
2) Is your RTR installation in a subfolder of "C:\Program Files (x86)\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War". Like "C:\Program Files (x86)\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RTRVII", for example

Hi.same case.
But I know the problem is that the RTRVII shortcut in my desktop targets the rtw bi in the wrong folder and thats why dont find the bi. My Rtw bi is in c:\program files (x86)\activision. It is not in c:\program files (x86)\The Creative Assembly.
I installed only the RTRVII without patch nor hotfix because dont want anything else messed up before I fix this.
My questions:
The creative assembly folder created by RTRVII setup exe should be outside or inside my Activision folder? The Activision folder is where Rome - Total War folder contains my rtw,bi and Alexander. Activision was automatically created during the installation of rtw and there went bi n Alexander addons.
The Creative Assembly and Activision folders are both in "c:\program files (x86)". They are at the same level in the adress bar.

Other questions:
Should I install patch 1 and hotfix 1 before patch 2 and hotfix 2?
To play rtr which desktop shortcut should I use? The RTRVII with the fist icon or the one with the word "launcher"

You should cut and paste the RTRVII folder into your Activision/RomeTotalWar folder. It should be on the same level as BI and Alex. I'd advise to use the launcher when it works, install only patch 2 and it's hotfix.

After installing patch 2a I cant see the game tips during the loading screens. It just shows the name of the patch now. They were useful, especially cuz this is the first time I play a Rtw mod. How can I solve it? Thnx
