    Default Release Date

This can be used for any news on release dates for Rome II.

Recently I heard a rumor that the game will be here late winter or early spring 2013. I wouldn't be surprised. The pictures show good progress if thats in-game.

The best part about that is the fact that (if this is true) such a date is only just around the corner!

Game will be released in the second half of 2013, that much is quite certain. Spring 2013 is completely unlikely.

First they said it would be released christmas of 2013, then they said something about late winter/early spring of 2013. Seems rather strange to release so early compared to their first estimate.

I don't agree. Empire had introduced navel battles, and improved far reaching aspect on the campaign map.

I would love another Empire Total War, but I would encourage them to complete it this time.

To be honest, as much as I fear it, I bet they are gonna release it at spring. Reasons? First of all, they have released all recent games on january-march. Announcing a game 500 days before release is a good way to make everyone forget it. Financers would also get impatient, not to mention the press. Look what happened to Warhammer Online. That game was announced too early, and everyone lost their interest. It was barely noticed when it was published.
Furthermore, they have half as big a team as last time and 40% more funds. Even Empire, which was a huge evolution from ME2 took them 18 months to complete, even with all the delays. Rome 2 won't be as big as Empire. It uses the same engine, and its only new features are facial animations, mixed naval-land combat and (hopefully) better AI/diplomacy. I can't seriously see how this game would take up to four years to complete, as its developement was supposedly started when they finished SG2. Logically, with bigger budget and team, it would take them as much/less time than with Empire.
Finally, they have given us screenshots, a teaser, info and an upcoming gameplay trailer ( september 25th). For me it seems quite a lot for a game set to launch at 12.2013, a date made up by IGN and other sites parroting it. Besides Shogun 2 also had "pre-alpha" footage six months prior its launch. I just hope it will be as good as Shogun 2 when it launches at spring. I hope and fear....

I was wondering when they would release that (Kept hearing about a second trailer, couldn't find it ).

Wait..where have they announced a gameplay trailer? Also it wouldn't make sense for them to release it so early. James Russel said clearly that they were aiming for the later half of 2013, and SEGA told it's investors etc that it would arrive in late 2013 or even early 2014, and to release a game one YEAR(almost) before the final release date? Doesn't match up.

There was a thread about the subject some two days ago. They will show the trailer in a particular event, which I don't remember by name.

I belive that is their way of avoiding a catastrophe like Empire was on release by not giving an exact release date/month. It almost seems like they have mixed up the deck on purpose. They told some reviewers that they will release the game late 2013, some that they will release the game on August-September, and some have been hinted it will get an earlier release. That way, should delays occur, the fanbase won't kick up a as they can simply state "What do you mean delayed? We CLEARLY stated it would be released late 2013." It even works should they succeed in releasing it at spring (which I believe is their goal anyway). "Nah, late 2013 was just speculation. We always meant to follow the usual release schedule and release the game at spring."

Yeah they will(most likely) show the Battle of Carthage to the people who are there, so technically yes it is a gameplay trailer but it isn't "official" in that the game is in such a state that they won't show it to everyone. It's just for coming there.

Every boxed Total War release since Empire has been released in March or near March (Empire: March 4th, Napoleon: 23rd to 8th March in different territories, Shogun 2: 15th of March, Fall of the Samurai: 23rd of March). Plus a bunch of other major titles all seem to turn up around that time, at least the ones I want to play. There is definitely some kind of industry-strategic thing going on at the moment that makes release games late Winter/Early spring a great idea so I myself would not write off March 2013.

That said, if the game isn't ready for release by then (and we don't actually know how long it's been in development or how close it is to finished) then maybe they'll go for September instead, or March 2014.

They said first time that it will be second half of 2013. They'd better keep their word with that and don't try a stupid earlier release that is very likely to be buggy. They announced it for then, we can wait. At least we will know that it will be a stable release and it will worth the money.

Indeed. There will be bugs no matter when they release it. The best way to find all those bugs is letting the community find them. Besides, I can see what would happen if they launched it next christmas and all those bugs would be found. The community would blame CA for the bugs as usual AND how the game was still released so late.

Release it too early and you get an Empire level of bugs together with dropped features.

Release it after a proper time and you have a standard level of bugs that once fixed gives you a decent game.

I know which one I'll prefer.

Rome II won't have as many features as Empire. In fact, the only new things it has to offer are facial animations, mixed naval-land battles and possibly better AI and campaign management. It won't have tons of new features to be cutted anyway.
