DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran and North Korea have signed an agreement to cooperate in science and technology, Iranian media reported on Saturday, and Iran's supreme leader declared that the two countries had "common enemies."
The two countries will cooperate in research, student exchanges and joint laboratories, and in the fields of information technology, engineering, biotechnology, renewable energy, the environment, sustainable development of agriculture and food technology, the Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA) reported.
ILNA said the agreement was signed by Iran's Minister for Science, Research, and Technology Farhad Daneshjoo and North Korean Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun.
North Korea has had close ties with Iran. Leaked U.S. diplomatic cables from 2010 showed that U.S. officials believe Iran has acquired ballistic missile parts from North Korea.
Pyongyang's Communist government and Iran's Islamic republic share little in the way of ideology, but both were named as part of an "axis of evil" by former U.S. President George W. Bush in his 2002 State of the Union speech.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also met with North Korea's Kim Yong-nam, seen as a figurehead head of state, who was in Tehran for the Non-Aligned Movement summit held this week.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran and North Korea have common enemies, because the arrogant powers do not accept independent states," Khamenei was quoted as saying by ILNA on Saturday.
There had been rumours that North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-un would attend the summit of developing countries. The Non-Aligned Movement is one of the few multilateral forums in which the North takes part.
Iran's first vice-president, Mohammad Reza Rahimi, also called on Saturday for greater economic ties between his country and North Korea, Iranian state television reported.

ON TOPIC: I think it's natural for countries which are considered evil by many major players to start developing more bonds, so it doesn't surprise me in the slighest.

Besides the conflicting ideologies that the two states have as mentioned in the OP source have nothing to do with working together.

For example Ghaddafi was a pretty neat "ally" for sometime before being killed if I'm not mistaken.

It's apparent that AIPAC/Israel is luring USA into what might develop into a ww3. Mind you, there are LOADS of countries fed up with USA expansionism under the leadership of AIPAC/the Israel lobby, some of which aren't aware of the massive AIPAC influence, who simply see Americans as their enemy now. Even though the alliance DPRK-Iran is reasonably weak, it is very likely that once conflict is initiated, unless it is a quick blitz that captures Iran almost instantly, more countries will join the DPRK-Iran allies against the Israel-USA axis.

Prior to the Iranian revolution, Iran and Israel had close diplomatic ties as both feared their Arab neighbours.

As for the possibility of Iran getting nuclear weapons, I'm against it. Not because I think the Iranians will ever use them, but because it could spark an arms race in one of the most volatile regions in the world. Not something that will do anyone any good.

Enemy of my enemy is my friend. With America bullying and harassing Iran for so long I'm surprised it didn't happen earlier. Hopefully this cooperation will benefit both NK and Iran.

N.K. Is trying to move away from a totally insular society, At least in a business sense.
Its trying to get foreign investment into business/manufacturing parks it has been setting up for the past 2 years.
The usual tax incentives and low cost labour are being pushed.
Of course the N.K. leadership know that they are not going to see a rush of U.S. investment so they are looking for alternatives.
Regarding N.K. missile development, Well given the current threat that Iran is under, It kind of makes sense for them to work with a country who are into this teq and also not shy of supplying them the goods.
