Default Just RTW with medieval skins?

Looking at the videos and screenshots of the UI, campaign map, ect, I cannot help but fear that MTW II will just be RTW but with updated textures and medieval skins.

They said themselves it's merely an enhanced version of the RTW engine.

Sure we get enhanced dimplomacy but we'll see just how enhanced that is

I dont think were going to get a complete product here at all. But we'll see

I wouldnt worry too much, now that the graphical updates are mostly completed, Ive heard the major work on the AI and therefore the diplomacy etc, will be worked on solidly until the release date, theres still a fair way to go before the product is finished, and if its all going as planned, it should mean the product will be much tighter and complete than what we are seeing now. A few months working thrugh the AI should mean its much better than RTWs

Yes sure many areas will no doubt be improved but I highly doubt the same basics will remain untouched.

The battlefield engine has been tweaked to look extra nice. In particular individual soldiers will all look different from each other as opposed to clone armies. The combat animation will look much much smoother and more fluid, the textures are higher resolution and the cities are much bigger.

On the campaign map things look pretty similar but again, the graphics are improved somewhat. As far as gameplay goes we'll have a few new agents to train (princesses, merhcants, bishops?). Crusades are also an option, and the role of the pope (replacing the senate) is greatly expanded. AI has also been worked on we are told, so overall expect to have much more to do and a better opponent to face at the same time..

and no i dont work for CA

The merchant mini-game whereby you compete for resources will be interesting to see. Also, is the 'council of nobles' also the mission-giving senate replacement or is the pope calling the shots?

    Cool. That's a start.

In THIS thread we are suggesting ideas to bring more life and personality to the campaign game. There are some very good ideas in there.

First off, yes M2TW is RTw but with a much improved version of the RTW engine. Just like MTW was an improved version of the STW engine.

Secondly, what were you expecting, them to ditch a perfectly good engine to do a completely new one?

    I don't recall complaining.

Infact, it's better that they re-use the engine because it gives them time to create CONTENT instead of spending ages creating a brand-new engine.

I tend to look at it differently. I think in many respects RTW was a trial run, setting up the new engine and getting to grips with it before "getting it right" for M2TW.

Thats true, i think its pretty much what they always do. As Medieval1 was an evolution from shogun, rome was a revolution from medieval1, and medieval2 will be an evolution of the gameplay from rome.. hopefuly much more polished and tweaked.. or failing that.. more moddable..

You don't expect ca to make a new engine? it take times and effort. making a new engine take atleast 1-3 years. For exsample look at win 95, 98 and 2000? they all are the same but improve. but window xp is completed new window see the point there?

No, but you did appear to be criticising them for using the same engine in the first post, as you seemed disappointed by the fact.

Yes I admit it does sound so but I assure you I was not criticising. Like I said I am pleased they are using the time to create more content than to spend it making a new engine.

MTW2 will be to RTW what MTW was to STW.

And that is a signifigantly better and more atmosperic game.

And if you want to argue, MTW was just a reskinned STW....

Well you just need to be more careful with your language. By adding the word "Just" at the beginning of the title it changed what you implied completely.

In a way it is RTW with Medieval skins. However this will create a new world for us with a new experience along with it. Say if someone was to redesign the interior of your house completely. Well it would be the same basic structure but once you got inside nothing would be the same. Know what I mean?

I think that skins and graphics are not all in a game and what we have heard from CA so far seems to be an improvement on what they did with RTW. We can only hope that they really make changes to AI /diplomacy until the release and that we don't find us here in a few months complaining about the "tweaks" CA made.

The important thing for me however is mod compatibility. I have used mods with MTW 1 and much more with RTW (thanks to knowing TW-Center, which really became the more important site for me very fast). So I hope they will make it as moddeable as possible. :original:

We already know much in battles is improved. Individual animations that make battle look entirely more realistic as well as well as multiple skins/models per unit. Not to mention higher poly models and better quality skins. The campaign map and UI have been improved in similiar ways. So we can be sure many graphical improvements as well as some mechanics have been improved to make it feel much more realistic.

Now, with all this in place it is still months from M2TW's release. Graphics bring people to the game, but good AI and game mechanics in general will bring them to the expansion pack and further series releases. As such CA has every reason to improve these things as they can. Time will tell how much this is, but I see no reason for dissapointment yet.
