Re: crash on select battle
Have you done this, yet? http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=238484
Try installing the High Definition Audio codecs from www.realtek.com.tw as yours are still Microsoft's.
Try updating the motherboard drivers. www.packardbell.com

Re: crash on select battle
You read the threads that cover both and there is a difference from RotS to FotS. Yeah, things change and not necessarily for the better.

Re: crash on select battle
on another note - starting a custom battle there are only two units available (two heavy cavalry) to add to my army?
historic battles are unaffected....

Re: crash on select battle
Error code c00005 and 32bit OS says you're running out of memory. You have hit that 4gb ceiling including graphics.
Find a free version Game Booster or shut down what you can safely in msconfig or maybe both.

Re: crash on select battle
a C0000005 exception (Access Violation) will result. If this exception is unhandled by the process, then the ‘unhandled exception handler” of the OS will be invoked
its a programming error
this is sloppy programming nothing I do to reduce memory usage will help unfortunately
oh well I guess it back to Empire...

Or upgrade to 64bit. Not all is sloppy programming.

Re: crash on select battle
handling exceptions is a basic programming technique, allowing programs to crash is bad programming,
however it must be some error with ROTS files because FOTS works flawlessly - havent tried SII
how do I check &/or reload ROTS files?

Re: crash on select battle
Everybody including me complains about well Total War games are not optimized and I can go back to Medieval One with this one.
You call it bad programming but it can be worked around. Possibly in your case FotS is better optimized.
I have had games, not TW ones, that saves got corrupted because of autoinstallers and automatic virus scans. I shut htem all down especially Microsoft and Adobe.
When Win 7 was released, I upgraded to 64bit on purpose, ETW.
The minimum specs since Warscape are joke in my eyes unless someone really takes the time it nedds to make it work and willing to put up the crashes, hanging, etc. that come with minimum systems and most players are not willing to.
I have personally found recommended specs too low for decent play and I'm far from a graphics hog or a fps fanatic.
You can take this up at http://forums.totalwar.com, and contact Sega support to voice your dispkeasue.
This backwater site only gets a CA dev here when they want something. We do have forums for other games besides total War, too. Blizzard for one.
